The first book of Cerebus is very different from the rest of his work. It starts out as a pure Conan-parody (Book1) but it soon grows into something very different. The first book introduces many of the characters so it might still be smart to start there, but you could also start at the second...
I agree.
Yes i'm Norwegian. Sure i can recommend lots of good books, but when i try to find them in amazon it seems few of them are translated.
When looking at norwegian literary history you cant get past"The four greats", Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Jonas Lie, Henrik Ibsen and Alexander...
Yes in the early days before he was really famous he tried to organise some lecture tours without much success, but he published several articles on writing. In 1891 he had got his breakthrough, and finally managed to get a successful lecture tour. He talked about his ideas on writing, and what...
The little quirks tend to annoy me immensly. Very often in not so good literature you find characters with a pecualiar quirk put in to make the character seem more alive. However, a huge amount of authors tends to repeat this quirk on pretty much every page, and then i very quickly get tired of...

Just a few from my bookshelf. All from europe so not that exotic.
Norway: Knut Hamsun - Hunger
Czech: Karel Čapek - War with the newts.
Germany: Siegfried Lenz - The german lesson
Sweden: Per Olov Enquist - The royal physicians visit
Denmark(/Norway): Ludvig Holberg - Jeppe of the Hill...
I find that there are good and bad sides to every country including my own. I lived a couple of years abroad when i was a student, and liked it a lot, but in the end i went back home because most of my friends still live here. I'm more attached to people than places.
I liked that her lawyer argued that she is "too pretty for jail". I think she got off easy because of her looks.
