Is there any type of professional standard for plaigirism in fiction that one could read or reference?
I know what qualifies in academics, but not in fiction.
TIA for anyone who might be able to assist me on this matter.
Acolyte, we cross posted, but I hope that third post of mine to this thread answers some of what you said.
I don't mean to sound quite as callous as I guess I do. Something that occurs to me too is that as a newbie, with about 70 posts to my name, no one here has ever said anything even...
Thank you Jenn and Motokid.
On the writer's forum, now that I thought about it some: Is my understanding correct in that some first time posters actually START posting there with thier work?
That goes back to getting to know people here first, though I don't read that board yet, and an...
Okay Motokid, now you've gotten my thoughts flowing.
I stuck around because it seemed like a fun board. What almost chased me off? Puh-leeze. I have four siblings, like y'all can compare to the sh*t I've taken from people who supposedly love me.
I don't want to suggest I'm insensitive...
Okay, a little tiny soapbox just turned over and begged me to step on it.
I don't think that the terms we're using here are very clear.
Classics are not just "old" books. They are works which transcend time. They're still being written today. I mean, just look at The DaVinci Code...
There was this one commercial a while back, and I have absolutley no idea what it was for, so in that aspect, it failed to do it's job.
But anyway, it was three guys biking. Two of them actually had bicycles they were on, and the third was just running in a really hilarious mime of riding an...
Michener wrote dozens of wonderful novels, but I would say Hawaii is his absolute best work, but then, I still pick up novels of his to read every few months or so.
His genius is in how able he is to make literally hundreds of memorable characters in just a single book. I remember being...
I just devoured The Queen's Fool the day before last (after I read Wuthering Heights, if you saw me in the sucky classics thread). Jenn, you must read this book as well!
To take a relatively unknown, or possible insignificant character, like Mary Boleyn, and make a novel about her is very...
Omigosh, so glad I found this thread all nice and bumped up. I just read Wuthering Heights like three days ago. In fact, I did so because of this board (though I hadn't seen this thread yet), and someone's comments on it in one of the threads.
What a big peice of convoluted crap it was...
Well, I've been meaning to say something like this.
Motokid, you're a very interesting conversationalist, but. . . you have an odour. I think it's your breath, could be your pits though.
On the constructive side, they make lots of products for that sort of thing and they're available at...
like with whom do you live together--a budgie named Pocahontas
when do you get up--I shoot for 9 and usually make 10
what do you like for breakfast--black coffee
how often you have sex--Do you mean like, with someone? Not nearly often enough
if you are a procrastenator--a prodigious...
Omigosh, LMAO, I hadn't seen that he said that, just gone straight to the latest page of the thread to see him respond to you. :o
Yeah, okay, now I'll concede shovel beating urges outweird comparsions to a would be assasin. ;)
I think bias gets too much press. Fairness is what I try to look for, and that's very different from lack of bias. But you didn't ask for us to get up on a soapbox so. . .
Anything by Bob Woodward will be pretty solid and readable. Plan of Attack was recommended reading by both the Bush...

Ah but people can choose where to work.
Without OSHA, smart people would only choose to work for employers who did offer them reasonably safe environments.
You're only protecting dumb people from themselves, but in this instance, you find it palatable. It's all a...
You know for all the danger not using them could cause, I feel defensive enough in my driving to anticipate that.
What pisses me off most is if I am waiting to turn out of a parking lot or a side street into a tight, traffic laden road, and some dick whose going to turn in and give me an...
I always fall a little bit in love with Augustus McCrae in Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove when I'm reading it.
To say he was my absolute favorite might make a liar out of me, but he is the first character that comes to mind.
I'm so glad I've had the chance to "meet him".
One of the most unexpected pleasures I had in going to the movies--which I only do rarely--on Thursday, was seeing the preview for this one.
It looks awesome, and I can't think of many books I enjoyed more in my childhood than the Narnia series.
The movies are going to cover the entire...
