    Hello to all

Oh, I'm savoring it! *sigh* I will miss these books, I've enjoyed them so much.

How And Where Do You Read?

I recline on the couch, with a pillow on my tummy because I'm too lazy to hold the book up with my very own arms. The pillow also protects me from my cat, who likes to curl up on my stomach when I'm reclining. This wouldn't be so bad if she didn't have to knead me, first. In excellent...

    Man Booker Prize 2007

Thank you, mehastings, for the information:) It's interesting, about the McEwan comments; I've read just two--Saturday, which I thought was good, and Amsterdam, which I thought was awful. (If I had not been literally stranded with this book, I would have put it down). Obviously, I haven't...

    Do you take book notes?

I often use little post-it notes with short comments to mark places of interest, so I can write an overall impression of the book, later on, in a journal. Good question.

    Wishlist

Lots of interesting lists, here! AFTER I've finished the Harry Potter Series, this is a partial list of what I've been meaning to read: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath On Beauty by Zadie Smith The Collector by John Fowles Wonder Boys and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon Brief...

    What Genre do you like?

I think I've enjoyed something from all those categories except romance, and agree with MonkeyCatcher about historical fiction. Actually, memoirs and other nonfiction books have been good to me, too.

The first sentence in the book you're reading

I'm running to catch up to Harry!

    The Evil "Wish" Game

Granted, but then you are sued for selling cheeseburgers to fat kids, and the litigation costs you your millionaire status. (sorry, that was mean) I wish I didn't have to work.

    Avatars

This was obviously a wonderful idea for a thread. I'm usually Miss Potts because I have a blog with a teapot theme, and I think she looks sweet and friendly.

Most loved "classic" novel you've read

I think my favorite is probably Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, though Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath is way up there, too.

    Carl Hiaasen

I read Sick Puppy ages ago, and still remember how funny it is. Skinny Dip and Nature Girl are both on my TBR pile, but I probably won't be getting to them for awhile. Great thread! I love this encouragement:)

    The top 50 over 50

This is really a difficult choice, because I appreciate different authors in different ways, but there are no categories here, like at the Oscars:) This list reminds me that there are some fine authors who I've never read--so, thank you for the reminder! Joyce Carol Oates didn't make the list?

    Hello

I think you'll enjoy reading through the book discussions here--I really do. What kinds of books interest you?

    Hello all!

Hi, Maxine! I like Terry Pratchett, too--he's hilarious. I hope you're having a great weekend!

    Random Facts Thread

Wow, there's some interesting stuff, here! I've heard that Isaac Asimov is the only author to have written a book in every Dewey-decimal category. Well, I can't vouch for his being the only one, but that's got to be unusual, anyway:)

    Books we will never read

Oh, these are good! How 'bout-- Living on a Shoestring by Oprah Winfrey How to Win Friends and Influence People by Paris Hilton

    February Reads

This is a great thread! I read four Terry Pratchett books- The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Sourcery, and Eric. I think I'm in love...
