    Jim Butcher: The Harry Dresden Chronicles

    I've got nearly all the books in this series and felt each book got better as they went along, so read on :D There's a new one due out next year for the series too.

    going from you list I would say Mark Anthony would fit into the bracket you like. He's not long winded like Goodkind, I personally find him a better writer by far :) How about something different like China Mieville and Steph Swainston :D

    I can think of a couple that are very good and yet not mentioned much :) Louise Cooper - doesnt get mentioned much but her older stuff is pretty good - The Time Master Trilogy and The Choas Gate being two series that come to mind. She's written stand alones too. Mark Anthony - The Last...

    Across The Nightingale Floor

    I enjoyed the series, though the 3rd book wasnt as good as the others. For a YA series it's mature and does make for nice reading even for adults :D

    Wolf in Shadow- Underrated masterpeice.

    Ive not read many of Gemmell's book, the fight theme didnt appeal to me really. But saying that I may return to his newer novels as I do keep seeing a lot of feedback on them :D

    Favourite 2005 Fantasy Reads?

    Here's a link to a review - http://www.fantasybookspot.com/?q=node/view/147 Gives a good overview of the story. There is a sequel out now too, which Ive ordered from Amazon. It's quite gritty and much better than I had envisaged :D
