Big Fish
No kidding, Ronny! Usually when a book is made into a movie, you tend to love one and hate the other. Or at the very least, one is really dissapointing. But yeah, I loved them both too.
Here's a question (I don't know how long ago you read the book, so I hope you remember)...
How do I live? Interesting question, honeydevil! Lessee . . . where to start?
Where: I currently live in big, bustling Toronto though I am – and will always be – an eastcoast girl. What can I say, the beer’s cheaper there :D
Situation: At the moment I am living in sin with my...
Fforde
Great choice, Sanyuja! I hope you know you'll have to run out and get the other books in the series immediately after finishing this one? I actually read Jane Eyre solely because I wanted to read this book (though I did end up loveing Jane). I hope you enjoy it!
Welcome Jim! Great list. I am a particular fan of Watership Down (been so long since I read it, you may have just inspired me to pick it up again :) ) I also enjoyed Lord of the Flies, though not quite so much as Watership. And I’ve heard other fab reviews of the Neuromancer, think that’s...
I read the first Artemis Fowl and wasn't a huge fan (kept me fairly entertained though). I'm keen on character development and it just didn't do it for me.
A couple of good series that have already been metioned are Pullman's His Dark Materials and Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events...
And
And who gets to decide what is 'bs' and what is 'proper'? What sort of catagories/regulations/restrictions would be set up? Don't get me wrong, I think it's an interesting idea. I am just not sure that it is feasible (and I'm not sure what's wrong with the forums as they are now).
tess
I couldn't force my way through Tess, but I think I was just too young to tackle it. I was in my early teens and just couldn't hack it. One of those books I see giving another try someday though. No time soon though.
I loved Jane Eyre! Though it did take me awhile to get through. I...
BiG Fish
I just finished reading Big Fish by Daniel Wallace and really enjoyed it. I loved the movie as well and, though there are similarities between them, they are very different.
Just watched Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow. It was horrible. Acting was bad and the story was even worse.
I loved Life Aquatic. It was definitely Wes Anderson’s weakest flick, but I love everything he does. And I kinda dug the Portugese Bowie tunes. Very strange, but I dug it.
two cents
Welcome Roses! Enjoy the Forum. I’m new myself and am already having a great time.
And now for my two cents. Audio books are great, so long as you are not using them
as a replacement for the written word (like listening instead of reading a book for school). To put it...
Maya, I see you're reading Rebecca. That’s a great one. I certainly enjoyed it thoroughly. DuMauier’s writing is just so vivid and the plot development/characters were just dark and mysterious enough. A great read. Have you read anything else by her? I haven’t, but would love to hear a review.
Thanks Ricky, I'm a fan. I dig those wheels . . . and I must return the compliment. Rizzo is one of my favorites.
And no hard feelings, eh Kooka? *pulls box of popsicles from behind back and passing an orange on over* Anyone?
No offence meant! I can see why folks like it. Just not up my alley. Its more just that there is so much on these stations that sounds the same, and they play such songs at least twice a day. And don't tell, but i tend to prefer sum41 to the others of the genre.
Case in point
Case in point re: bad 'rock' stations. This station just played 'What if God was one of us' followed by Sum 41. Someone chop my ears off now, please.
Shouldn't there be a rule about this sort of thing, like banning purfume in the office?
orange vs purple
Can a pigeon take a penguin? Tough call. At least I have the option of flight :D
I was turned off the purple from drinking a vodka/white wine/grape juice concoction back in university. *shudder* They're all yours, ricky.
