Hey! The orange is my favorite! It’s the grape I hate *shudder* Here’s the deal, Ricky: I’ll trade you my purple for your orange. I think it’s a good offer, everyone wins.
next book
Here's how I'm going to select my next book : I'm going to ask you guys :) Luckily, I do have it narrowed down to two. Should I read:
1. Fortress of Soliture by Jonathan Lethem
2. Angels and Insects by A.S. Byatt
Any thoughts on either book? Thanks!
All great picks, Artemis! Pride and Prejudice is a personal favorite mine. I have a bit of an attachment to Mr. Darcy, I must admit :) Certainly my fave Austen novel, though Emma and Sense and Sensibility are also great. And I will be rereading Harry in the neat future, too.
movies
Sunday was movie day for me. Watched the following:
1. I (heart) Huckabees. I liked this one, though I will admit I occasionally fazed out during the more existentialist bits.
2. Wet Hot American Summer. This one was ridiculous (in a good way). I just love David Hyde Pierce, I...
My faves
Lets see. These are in no particular order of course (just not my style). Okay:
Julian Barnes, History of the World in 10.5 Chapters and England, England especially. The man is brilliant, in my completely unbiased opinion. Admittedly, I find some of his work a little *ahem*...
books books books
I just cannot resist buying books when i see them on sale or second hand. Luckily, I'm pretty good at diverting my attentions when they are still full price. But, yes, my 'to read' pile is ample.
cabra & Ell
Cabra- JS&MN is definitely worth a look, though be prepared for a major time investment. This thing is huge (both in sheer size and in depth). But I am certainly enjoying it.
Squabs! of course! Maybe thats why you never see baby pigeons? They're not pigeons, they're squabs...
pick
If you're going to read both, read Angels first. I wasn't a fan of either book, bit found this one a little better. If you're reading both, wait awhile between them - I read them within a month of each other and the repetitiveness drove me batty.
I'd agree with Ell. They are...
Hey Ell! I'm in the 'Riverdale' neighbourhood of Toronto, just south of the Danforth. Its a great place, in my books. Where in the city did you live?
The weather has been super hot and humid for about a week now, and they've been calling for rain for about the same amount of time. Hasn't...
Memoirs of a Geisha
This one came hugely recommended. Everyone – friends, customers, media – gushed about this fantastic historical novel. I hated it so much I could barely force myself to finish it. I thought the writing was horrible and the story boring, though I tried so hard to like it...
I am sure it’s happened to all of us. A friend, colleague, media person (ie Oprah) or relative recommends a book they are sure you’ll love. You don’t. You might hate it, or it might just not be up your alley. Whatever. Tell us about those horrible disappointments (and maybe how you broke...
oh yes!
Oh, and Wabbit, you didn’t know that pigeons have feathers that function much like an ‘invisibility cloak’? Only until they can fly themselves, of course. ;)
Thanks for the welcome folks! I appreciate it.
Kristo: JS&MN is pretty fantastic, though looooong. I think I’ve been reading it for four months now (just at bedtime, which makes it go slower), but I am enjoying it. There is just so much depth to it. Fun times.
Kooka: Thanks! Not...
