    Why read books?

Entertainment's gotta be number one. Reading a book, to me, is like watching a movie. Except in a lot of cases much better story-lines and characters. And sometimes I read to gain knowledge.

    Michael Crichton: Prey

I thought it was OK. I mean, it had a pretty cool message that I've heard before in the form of an OK story. Also, I predicted the WHOLE ending...

    Indeed, I agree with you.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's book 'Cabinet of Curiosities' focuses around the works of a mad scientist.

Where to start with Stephen King?

Contradictory to the others, I'd recommend starting with his early Bachman books. 'The Long Walk', 'Roadwork', 'Thinner', etc.

    Saw II

I saw it for the first time yesterday. It's good, I enjoyed it at least. Comparing it to the first one, well, there's an equally large twist in the end.

    Dean Koontz

Yes, I've read Life Expectancy and Jimmy Tock is the main character in that book. Also, I think in dragon tears a hobo keeps telling this detective 'tick tock, tick tock... they're coming for you at midnight' or something like that.

Have you ever met one of your favourite authors?

I've never met any authors, unfortunately, but I have exchanged emails with a few. I sent an e-mail to Douglas Preston and he replied rather quickly and was very gracious that I had enjoyed his work, he also freely answered my questions. William C. Dietz I found to be VERY friendly. He...

    Vampire Novel Recommendations

Vampire$ by John Steakley Has only written 1 other (great) sci-fi book. A man of few, but great words. Also like many other people have suggested "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson. The man who inspired King. I personally have not read it but I hear it's wonderful.

Really - and I mean truly - scary Books

The Shining I hear is VERY scary. And Intensity was VERY good although... it was more psychological horror.... and it wasn't really that scary to me and I'm one who scares easily. But it's usually the supernatural stuff that scares me.

Nobody's met Stephen King. He doesn't seem to like fans too much anyway...

    Have you met any authors?

I wish people would elaborate more. They just pour out a list of great authors and leave us hanging. What's that about? Anyway, I mentioned in this topic that I've exchanged e-mails with Mr. Douglas Preston and William C. Dietz... Dietz I found to be much nicer and took a lot of...
