I've never read the Lord of the Rings trilogy (though I saw the 1st movie and liked it) but I was told if I wanted to read it I should read the Hobbit first? Is it better to read the Hobbit first or not necessary? Should the Hobbit be the first of the Tolkien books of the month?

I also try to read every evening but when I'm exhausted I fall asleep after only about ten lines. I can read from 10 minutes a day to several hours in a row (week-ends and holidays)

What about "A prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving? I've never read any of his books and I heard this one was the one to start with...

I think that a nice bookmark adds to the pleasure of reading. But since I'd hate to spend money on a bookmark, I make my own, with scraps of colored and textured paper, autumn leaves, etc. I was wondering what everybody else use as a bookmark? Do some of you simply fold the corner of the page ?
