I preferred his daredevil stuff for some reason. You may want to have a peruse through a couple of Sin City trades in your local comic store (and most major bookshops since the release of the film) just to ensure the ensure the content is to your tastes before investing in that chosty set.
In no particular order:
Contact
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Alien
Matrix
Terminator 2
Back to the Futire (though it's more of a comedy)
Empire Strikes Back (though there's no 'science' to the fiction)
Star Trek 2 - Wrath of Kahn
The Thing (hey the opening has a spaceship)
12...
It's a shame - a lot of writers now seem to write in a way that suggests they designed it for a trade. Only a few seem capable of writing srong single issues that fit together. The cliffhangers that made the single issues so compelling are becoming increasingly rare. Surely there must be comics...
The whole buying movies thingy started at uni I guess when my tv habits became less regular and I had a student loan to spend. Started on VHS with those 3 for £20 offers at HMV. Then I noticed all those best film lists. Godfather? Rear Window? never seen em. Guess I'd better buy the movie. Other...
I'd second this. The horror writers of america made a good list:

Like science fiction, some of the best works I've found in the horror genre are the short story collections.
Just adding my 2 cents as noone's arguing the other way
1) This isn't the only bookforum to not allow politics/religion - www.sffworld.com/forums
2) The reason for this is:
- Politics and religion are the 2 topics which are the most likely to cause 'unrest' amongst members. Granted...
I found the 1st trade to be 'alright' but I guess it just didn't work quite so much with me. I think it's this - In the first trade of Ex Machina and the 1st trade of 'Y the Last Man,' Vaughn does go into the American political system (the republican v democrat thing) - as someone from outside...
So I'm not the only person to have seen this Lean masterpiece? (and one of the best adaptations of a book to film ever)
Have so many old black and white favourites I'd be here listing them for quite some time so I'll keep it brief. Casablanca stands out as one of the biggest onscreen romances...
To be honest after all that effort, it just wasn't that nice. Now there is one place in Leeds which makes the best hot chocolate that I'm trying to steal the recipe off but their counter espionage keeps foiling my attempts to elucidate the secret ingredients  Will keep you posted on...
5 (as I'm in a rush)off the top of my head:
Blindness - Jose Saramago
The Black Dahlia - James Ellroy
Animal Farm - George Orwell
The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Penman
The Land of Laughs - Jonathon Carrol
Although the film's ending was decent, I'm not impressed with whoever edited the film - expecting a huge extended edition DVD now.
Quidditch world cup? A load of special effects ensued as the gang got there talking about Krum etc, but where was the actual quidditch action? Prematch and then...
A small selection of decent batman stories:
Year One
Dark Knight Returns
Blind Justice
Long Halloween (though I've gone off this a little recently)
Legends of the Dark Knight: Blades (issues 32-34, can also be found in the trade Collected Legends of the Dark Knight)
Batman vs Predator...
Put Shantaram on hold for a while.
Read Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. It's a decent read about taking a casino for millions, but it does drag in places explaining the maths and subtle nuances about the system described in the book. You do get the impression that it's a bit of a one...
Reading Roberts' Shantaram. Depite a very intriguing opeing, nothing's happening :( I was expecing something along the lines of Middlesex. Oh well 800 pages to go.
Oh Penman's The Sunne in Splendour was very good. Thanks to whoever recommended it.
