Theoretically I could have beaten you out of the womb ;)
I was born in a time zone 7 or 8 hours ahead of yours. So if you were born late on the 15th and I was born early on the 16th I could be older than you :p
A few people have put down Sauron or 'He Who Should Not Be Named,' but to be honest those unseeable villains don't really scare me/make me hate them whilst reading. I guess if you're looking for the unspeakable/intangible, something in the style of Lovecraft's stories is probably the way to go...
Well I wouldn't say I purchased these, but I did pay a visit to the library.
Well after the travesty that was Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix (yes it did finally get going somewhere between pages 250 and 300, but apart from creating a great character who you loved to hate [Umbridge]...
Thankyou for the warning, but troll or not remains to be seen. I'm sure the other members will give BulldozerGirl a fair chance, and the mods will step in only if it's neccessary.

How do you think the series would have developed if Harry had been sorted into the Slytherin house? It does seem to me to be an interesting avenue for an 'alternative universe' set of stories with an endless realm of possibilities.
Darkness. Destiny. Redemption & Salvation.
Well, I started Harry Potter 5 last night and I'm 200 pages in. It seems long winded and just hasn't grabbed my attention so far. The atmosphere of fear left over from book 4 which instead of building up, has dissipated IMHO. The rubbish with the Ministry of Magic just doesn't appeal to me. Now...
Who keeps resurrecting these old threads anyway?
Just a few thoughts:
I still prefer book 3 as this one seemed padded out in places. When they said Quiddich World Cup on the blurb I was expecting a tournament. Not just one match. I'm still not convinced by Rowling's descriptions of the...
But Atwood's books aren't SF ;)
Not sure whether to list horror as it overlaps with fantasy. What about comics? Am I going to skew the ratings up? I tend not to give 10s, while my recommended list comes from my 8s and 9s.
Anyway, I'm going to have to come back to this with more (as...
Well, I've been rereading my Harry Potter books so I can get around to book 5 sometime (plus they don't need much thought to read IMHO). The thing that struck me on the reread was the way in which they were paced.
Rather than that of a novel, I'd suggest the pacing's very similar to that of...
Don't think you get off that easily. Just press the printscreen button. Then fire up a paint program or powerpoint, right click and paste. Then just save the thing.
As for me, I've just stolen someone elses wallpaper so you've seen it already ;)
