Why you would never read trashy romance novels

When I was 13-16 years old I read romances, but I always read the back of the book first to see if it involved some foreign location or world travelling. I read a lot of Barbara Cartlands, a few "trashy" novels and some of Victoria Holt, which I liked best because they were more about...

Book Crossing - Recycling books 'into the wild'

Just visited the bookcrossings site. I think I'll try it. I have several doubles of Stephen King books because people know I collect them so they just keep coming, and it's not hard for me to part with a double of something I've already read. I'd never give away part of my collection, though...

    Amityville Horror Remake

Since this book is so hard to find and expensive when you do find one, I promise to look for inexpensive copies at book sales and yard sales in the future. If I find any, I'll let you all know and will be glad to pass copies through the mail to anyone who wants it. :)

    Brainwaves and stuff

I dont believe thats true at all. Most of the times that I've known what was going to happen, there was nothing to interpret in the present to lead to that thought. I've watched lots of air-hockey before and since and only that one time thought I'd get hit. Also the mini-van had nothing wrong...

Anybody read The Haunting of Hill House?

Exactly right-its what you cant see that makes your skin crawl and the hair stand up on your neck! This is why I love the old horror flicks so much. You just cant do that with the new special effects. The Haunting and many others (Dracula is another big favorite of mine) depended on shadows...

    Currently Reading

I haven't read any of his books either, but there are three in my to-be-read pile (NightChills, Lightning, & TickTock). I'm going to try to read at least one this summer. Currently, I've read four chapters of 'Wizard and Glass'-Stephen King. This could take a while since its gardening time...

    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

I wish they would do a contiuation into 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator' instead of another remake. My son and I laughed ourselves silly reading that book, and since we all love the original here-we don't need a remake. Johnny Depp is good-but can he pull off Willy Wonka?-I'm not so...

    Amityville Horror Remake

I would recommend reading the book if you can find a copy.(try used bookstores or thrift/charity shops.) It was MUCH scarier and better than the original film. I was very bored through that and I don't think I'll bother with the remake, especially since its done by the same guy that did 'Texas...

    What sports are you into?

I have been a baseball and football watcher basically all my life. Born & raised outside of Boston MA on RedSox/Patriots-a requirement in our family! I watch every Sox game thats on and during football season no housework or anything gets done on Sunday or Monday night. My son is a football...

    Brainwaves and stuff

My mom and I usually know when one of us is going to call the other. We have no particular schedule for calling, but almost every time the receiver of the call knows its coming! Also Ive been 'sending' to my daughter since she was little. I discovered this accidently when I randomly thought...

    George Hayduke

Has anyone read any of his "revenge" books? They're full of ideas which he says, of course, are for 'entertainment purposes only'. Some are sooo funny, while others are disgusting and/or impossible sounding ideas. I think he's written 8 or more books on the subject. I have 'Revenge Tactics...

Anybody read The Haunting of Hill House?

'The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson Excellent book-I liked it very much! Its a great ghost story. Here's the NY Times review from the back of my copy: "I can vouch for the fact that this is no book to read yourself to sleep with in a lonely house...a super-deluxe ghost...

    Agatha Christie

I would say yes- it was one of my favorites, but I think you can only get it as'Ten Little Indians' now. I like Poirot stories best also. :)

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

Hey! I was editing my post while you were writing this one! New hardcovers dont fit my budget either! I guess I should have added that I got it used for 50 cents. That's the only way hardcovers usually make it into my collection-unless I'm lucky enough to find a 50-75% off clearance sale at...

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

Cool- that's always a good one to add to any collection! I also picked up another copy of that recently because my other poor old copy had completely fallen apart! It was a 196? edition I bought used, and the pages just fell out over time. Now I have a sturdy hardback copy, which is good,since...

    I just finished reading...

Finally finished "Something Wicked This Way Comes". It was a re-read, but took forever because I've been outside raking and cleaning up the yard, which is great, but does put a big dent in my reading time!

    The Book-buying Experience... :)

I also like the small, secondhand bookstores. When I lived in Newtown,PA, years ago, there was a tiny store that sold used books and records. The woman who ran it had to be in her 80's and she knew every book and record in the shop! She was so well-read she could tell you about any book or...

Who likes The Sound of Music?

"The Sound of Music" is definitely one of my top 5 favorites. The others I really like are "The King and I", "Westside Story", "Oklahoma", and one that doesn't really fit here - "Woodstock".

    best concert

I think novella is referring to "The Grateful Dead Movie" which was filmed by the Dead in 1974. It has awesome animation sequences and lots of twirling deadheads! I saw the Dead 5 times over the years. I think their concerts are the most fun! I also really liked David Bowie's 'Glass...
