    Adjectives suck

Grudgingly, I can only say that you are, of course, right. Strong, or "loaded" nouns and verbs don't require adjectives, but people often fall into the trap of using those nouns and verbs too often, as cliches. Or else they try to use, or over-use, the adjectives in a way which takes away from...

Looking for books about an isolated/depressed main character

Peace out, folks! All of the books suggested are great reads, I've gone through all of them myself, they all have the qualities of being the masterpieces that they are. Crime and Punishment is the classic tale of the transcendence of psychological turmoil. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young...

Psychological books that change the way you think about the world!!!!!!!

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky deals with extreme psychological change. And a great thing is that the characters break all the cliches! The prostitute is holy, the good-looking guy is the crazy person! All the characters are originals.

    Suicidal Creativity

I'm not too sure about what you're saying. I suppose our different viewpoints just stem from two different sources. This gets into an area I study a lot in school, about how we base our knowledge claims and what is "truth". The Scientific American journal says that "Increased rates of...

    Suicidal Creativity

I've been refering to a Scientific American Journal written by Kay Redfield Jamison. Since the 19th century scientists have found correlations between depression and creativity. Nancy Andreasen, Hagop Akiskal, David Evans, Ruth Richards, and Arnold Ludwig are some of the researchers who have...

    Suicidal Creativity

I also think that Slacker should look at all the scientific evidence and research that has proven and explained this link. It's not just a coincidence.

    Suicidal Creativity

Men have called me mad," wrote Edgar Allan Poe, "but the question is not yet settled, whether madness is or is not the loftiest intelligence- whether much that is glorious- whether all that is profound- does not spring from disease of thought- from moods of mind exalted at the expense of the...

    discuss "The Metamorphosis"

its a short book, about 50-60 pages, there's nothing to lose by reading it. The psychological descriptions of Gregor's mind are awesome, and its a bit of a puzzle trying to figure out the literal meanings of the words.

    Dante and Joyce

*sigh*...sparknotes is fine and all, but their explanations are just so mundane... I can analyze the same information out of a book without their stinky help. I need someone who has read the books to help me focus my reading. And yeah, I guess I did procrastinate a wee bit, but I've already...

    I have maggot syndrome

Maggot syndrome is just a thought I had, I call it the tendency for people to mass together, like maggots do. They pulse and squirm, and there's just so many of them!!! I'm sure that if some higher being was looking down on us, we'd look like swarming bugs (ever see a video clip of a New York...

    discuss "The Metamorphosis"

Is Gregor's mother less innocent than she seems? I believe that she is the cause of his death. Do you think it was a suicide?

Pleas reply with books about suicide

In "Crime and Punishment" Svidrigailov is a child molestor who shoots himself for his horrible actions. It seems to be the only redeemable thing he does. Some say that Marmeladov, of the same book, also committed suicide when he stepped in front of a horse carriage while he was drunk, leaving...
