He does have the trait of loyalty going for him, but a hired bodyguard would also be loyal and be good in a fight. What exactly made him not that great of a person, in your opinion?
If you gave Sparhawk and a U.S. Marine each a club and told them to fight it out, who would win?
Would you want someone like Sparhawk as a personal friend?
If you could use a spell to put a boil on someone's nose, would you do it?
I just finished reading the book. I am totally frustrated by the ending, basically because THERE WAS NO ENDING. I have to read another book to find out what happens to the queen. For all I know, the next book doesn't even tell me what happens to the queen. All I'm left with is a bunch of...
I'm 43, and I just read this book for the first time a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it. I wish it would have been required of me in school, but I do think most 10-year-olds would be a bit young to grasp all the lessons in the book.
There are also the dangers of religion and politics being too closely intertwined. The characters, such as Annias, who only desire to promote themselves use both religion and politics to do so, and the deeper meaning of the beliefs can get lost in that effort.
I am now halfway through the book, and I've found a few more characters to interest me. The little girl Flute must have some significance, so I pay particular notice when she is mentioned. Loved it when she was riding on Sparhawk's horse. I am at the point where the four knights from the...
I'm partway into the book now, and it hasn't grabbed me yet. There are some books that I just can't put down once I start, and this just isn't one of them, for me, anyway. For one thing, I just haven't been able to develop an empathy for any of the characters, except for maybe the Queen. So sad...
I just got the book from the library today. I read the first sentence and almost put the book down. What's with all the words that can hardly be pronounced?
I love books that have characters who go into the past or the future, or books in which time is manipulated in some way. I loved The Time Machine by H. G. Wells. In The Guns of the South, people from the future go back to the Civil War and give machine guns to the South so the South wins. In The...
For someone who thinks Ender's Game is just okay, I'm not so sure the sequels would be worth it. Ender's Game is one of my favorite books, and yet I didn't get all that enthused about the sequels. I did like the one that was written from Bean's point of view, but I must not have liked it that...
When I was in high school, we had to read a different book each month and take a test on it at the end of the month. Some of the books were:
Oliver Twist
Pygmalion
Les Miserables
Wuthering Heights
Merchant of Venice
Pilgrim's Progress
Cyrano de Bergerac
A Tale of Two Cities
Silas...
I just reserved The Diamond Throne at the library, so I should get it in a few days. I'm still hoping, though, that two more people vote for Midshipman's Hope so it pulls out ahead. :)
