Ouch. Just reading this pokes a lot of bruises from my childhood that should've healed a long time ago.
Irene, I'm sure you know already that you can't protect her from everything, but you seem to have a great relationship and that's important. The best thing is for her to make friends that...
MMMMMMMMMM, Coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee. I am having a lonely, boring afternoon and coffee and biscuits is just the thing, thanks! :)
The movie was based on the book but only loosely. I like them both in their way but I can see how people who like the book would be irritated by the movie - it's much simplified.
It sounds like all those wonderful ebay ads that get their links bandied about: s/he was a jerk and so I'm selling his/her ____________. Sounds like great fun, in other words.

He's also working on something with Jim Henson productions currently.
I enjoyed Neverwhere, but it didn't reach the same level as American Gods. It's a good read, but not as deep. Still the same blend of humor and darkness. I'd give it a full recommendation, but it's not the same feel.
He's awfully busy writing movies, voice plays, comic books, reviews...
I don't suppose you could talk to your mother and explain that you are old enough for it? That would be optimal, but I would understand if that wasn't possible, I know my mom wouldn't be easily persuaded. But then, she wouldn't have recognized the book either.
It's an excellent and...
