I agree with Ronny. The ending fit the book really well and it left me thinking and talking about it with my wife for days. It was one of the best books I read last year and I would recommend his other works too. Each one is very unique and Faber has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

I've had this one on my TBR pile for quite a while but have yet to read it. Looks really interesting, though.

I have to tell you, you could do a lot worse than starting with Lonesome Dove. One of my top five books of all time.

I found it in the smaller size at a used book store but it looks like now they've released a 10th anniversary version that is the trade paperback (what you called the mid size). Amazon has it for $12 here or you could go hunting at some used bookstores.
