I'm used to dubbing. Nearly everything is dubbed here, except maybe for some programmes on MTV, but "Pimp my ride" isn't exactly what I want to watch on TV. Some very small channels don't do it, too, because they don't have the money.. but most of the times they show old programmes anyway, which...
Arcade Fire - Neigborhood #1 (Tunnels) ..still saving money for their debut ep, ah well... but I got "Digital ash in a digital urn" by Bright Eyes from the library, I'll have a look at that.
Happy belated Birthday! :)
Just wondering.. music solo performance? What are you doing?
I never had to do such a thing, luckily, I totally lack the feeling for rhythm. Only thing I was good at when it comes to music was analysing structure, key and so on of the composings.
Maya, I found your thread on Sarah Kane and will tell you what I think as soon as I get around to read the play.
On topic:
I got 'Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder' (Mother Courage and her children) by Bertolt Brecht from the library today.
I've been browsing the homepages of universitys all day.. it's kinda frustrating. There is something wrong everywhere, but I have one year left to decide. And now I'm going to prepare everything for tomorrow, the new school year starts.
I stumbled across this play in an amazon listmania list and thought to give it a try. I never heard of it before and the library even hasn't a regular copy of it, but it is fetured in a collection of contemporary plays along with Woody Allen, Elfriede Jelinek, Harold Pinter and Marlene...
Swiss-German? Not yet, but I have a friend in Austria who thinks of himself that his German is good and perfectly understandable - to me it isn't at all.
I loved the Adventure Series by Enid Blyton and Astrid Lindgren's books: Ronja Räubertochter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter); Mio, mein Mio (Mio, my son); Madita (Mardie) and so on - never read Pippi Longstockings though.
I'm just starting out on Spanish and still working on my French but doing it all by myself won't get me far, no nightclasses around here, though.
By the way, I think honeydevil mentioned something about living in Berlin, just to answer your question.
I buy most of the times at the independent stores - basically, because there are few book chains and none at all where I live. Besides, big chains can't offer better prices because book prices are fixed here in Germany. The only thing they can offer is probably a wider selection and better...
Endlich wieder Döner? ;)
Now, what do you mean by 'I think'? Not sure yet?
Anyway, it's good to have you back!
@Stewart: It's 'Welche Stadt?'. Still studying German by any means?
I feared that. I don't particularly care for german dialects (right choice of word?) either, like Bavarian or Swabian.
Swiss kick? Well, it's more of a coincidence. The books were recommendations from friends which I ordered from the library. Stiller took a few weeks to arrive so...
On the weekend I had time to finish a few books:
Faulkner - As I lay dying: Now, this was a struggle! But eventually I got used to his style and enjoyed the book a lot. I liked how the story is told from different perspectives, some of them more reliable than others. I couldn't get used to...
I ordered a lot of books from the library and quite a few arrived today:
Sylvia Plath - Ariel (german/english)
Roald Dahl - Charlie and the chocolate factory
Henrik Ibsen - Gespenster (Ghosts)
Judith Hermann - Sommerhaus, später (The Summer House, Later)
Jean-Paul Sartre - Geschlossene...
