Stephen King: The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger

I had the same problem with this book, Darren. It took me several tries to get into it (over a year had gone by!). I'm glad I eventually got through it. The others build upon this first one rather well.

Do You Have A Set Time For Reading?

I'm with you, Vicky. While I read at lunch time, during my commute, etc., my favorite time is once the kiddie are in bed. I can concentrate on what I'm reading for an extended period of time and not deny my children my attention they need.

    Mistakes in Books

I do find errors in books, although right at the moment I can't quote one. I tend to read it, then reread it. Then think it's intentional. Then second guess myself. I mean, if it's in a book, it's meant to be there....right? (HA!)

    Difficult books.

Les Miserables was difficult for me in places. I got through it, and felt a hugh sense of accomplishment when I did. I found myself thoroughly taken in by it. What a moving story! I have yet to see a film that does it justice.

Ell, I really enjoyed The Talisman. I somehow missed that one when it first came out, but read it shortly before Black House was released. Talisman is now one of my favorite King books. Nicole and Vicky. I finally read The Lovely Bones. I read it in two sittings, staying up until 4 a.m...

Stephen King: The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger

I remember reading The Black House and actually laughing out loud with surprise that King brought in The Black Tower references. I felt privy to a secret that only readers of the Tower series could possibly understand. At that time I was grumbling about the fact that King has spent so much...

    George R. R. Martin

It makes perfect sense to me. I would say that the characters are important to the events, though. We learn more and more about each character as the events progress and what we learn is sometimes surprising and sometimes disturbing. We learn more and more about what motivates them to do what...

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

I have to contantly remind myself where everyone is and what they know of what the others are doing. I'm speaking of the main characters mostly. Also, I never liked the love "quad" idea. I hope Jordan has a reason for this. A reason he decides to share with the rest of us. Otherwise, it...

    George R. R. Martin

I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the Fire and Ice series, which is supposed to come out in April. I may have to reread the others to refresh my memory. Anyone else interested in Martin? I like his writing style and his characterization. Everyone has depth. He has created a very...

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

I'm about to finish Crossroads of Twilight and wanted to know if anyone else has. If so... What do you think about the series? How does this novel compare to the others? Where to you think Jordan is going with the various plotlines? Do you think the novels have gotten too...

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

In my opinion it is worth it. Some of the books are better than others, but they do suck you in. You want to know what happens to these people. And if you like them, you don't have to wait for the next one to come out, since there are 10 of them now. That should keep you going for a while.
