    Bad influence of Harry Potter

You are implying that Santa Claus is not real? When the guy, his name escapes me, walked into Dunblane Primary school and shot many children several years ago 'Natural Born Killers' , due to be released the Monday after the incident, was stopped, not due to the sensitive nature, but because...

    Bad influence of Harry Potter

If you're worried about kids not being able to tell the difference then don't get them to read The Magic Faraway Tree because that will really trip them out. The whole point of a kids book is that they are seperate from reality and you are at a time in your life when you do not have boundries...

    eyeQ Speed Reading System

I don't mind speed reading, but I think the example given is obviously a marketing ploy. The second paragraph, given at the end is much easier to read than the first paragraph, just by content, names, and the flow of words so I don't believe my reading speed went up any. Mxx

    Ian Rankin

I notice on the homepage that the new Ian Rankin novel is out soon. Is he any good? I bought Knots and Crosses last night, book #1, thinking someone had suggested him to me. I found out I was confused and they had really suggested John Irving. I think I saw an episode of Reubus (sp?)...

    Bad influence of Harry Potter

I was speaking with an ex of mine recently and she had just returned from a business trip in Canada. It appears that some schools over there will not buy books for their library if, for example, the books feature children who live besides the seaside. Why? Because it discriminates...

    Spellchecker working again

Okay, the spellcheck for the 'quick reply' at the bottom of the forum still gives me a 404. When I goto reply and type the following: This is a tset message I get this box up... It does not give me a correct spelling to try... or am I missing something blindingly obvious...

What other hobbies do you enjoy?

Apart from reading I enjoy web design, and incorporate my hobbies into this by creating websites on books, ancient egypt, riddles and The X-Files (although this one hasn't progressed very far). I also enjoy the cinema, most types of music, most types of beer (especially Hoegaarden) and, on...

    Auctions on this site?

My first thoughts on this would be 'why'? I was thinking of setting up a 'bookswap' feature on my forum (not until I had enough members though) but it would probably not work very well as it's likely one person would want a book of someone elses, but that someone else would not want a book...

    Reviews - possible to improve?

Sorry, me again. Another suggestion for the book review is to have an additional menu you need to fill in stating something such as: 'this review contains spoiler information' 'this review does not contain spoilers' as accidentally reading a spoiler is one of the most frustrating...

What's your personal summer reading list?

Hee, I am also reading through the Big Read top 100. Although not in order (I just bought Gone with the Wind and it's a massive 1011 pages, so may leave that one a while.) How many of them have you read so far, I am up to 3 of them. The most anyone in our reading group has read is 66. Mxx

    Reviews - possible to improve?

After submitting a new book, a new author and two reviews, it seems that the library works as such: New Review. Write review and it posts automatically, without being screened by admin. New Book. Submission goes to admin who add the book to the author. 2 days or so to process. New...

    The Princess Bride

Fabulous, if I ever get my copy of the book back I'll check the address in it (it was quite a recently published edition). Cheers Mxx

    The Princess Bride

I can't remember too much about the opening chapter, as it was a while ago when I read it and the book is currently out on loan (and has been for about a year) so I can't check. It basically just gives a teaser of what may be to come if a second is written. It's starts off with a lot of...

    Concentration while reading

It happened this very morning on the tube so I closed the book and continued the journey without reading. I have the option of either carry on reading a missing critical incidents of the story, or go back to it refreshed and focused and enjoy it more. So, yeah....um....just take a break...

Name the Novel (How's that for alliteration?)
