I don't know what they are about as I haven't read them yet, and don't want to read the reviews on cow and chicken in case there are spoilers, but yes, it is just a trilogy.
He does have other books out written for the 'older children' category but have no idea if they are any good.

I agree with those who say the Shining is better in book form.
I like some aspects of the film, such as Jack looking at his reflection when speaking to the ghosts and the panning in on the photo at the end, but otherwise most of the metaphors in the book just aren't in there.
Other films...
You would think so but just yesterday I was reading Goodnight Mr Tom whilst sat at the PC and I went to the kitchen to make coffee. Whilst waiting for the kettle to boil I picked up the book in there, River God, and continued reading it not even thinking it was a different book. Halfway down...
Depends on the size of the book and whether I do anything after work or not. I can read about a hundred pages an hour so in a good month I can read about 10 books.
I've read a few 700 pagers this month though so I think it'll only be about 6 by the time August comes.

to kill the cliche of never judging a book by it's cover I nipped into the childrens section of Waterstones the other night, just to see what's new in the world of kids books. I managed to bypass the shiny covers of Artemis Fowl alright, but my eye caught on a book of which I can't remember...
I got two sets of the Narnia books for Christmas, one hardback and one soft back.
I have read the first Artemis Fowl, which I did enjoy, and am just waiting to get my hands on the others to continue reading. The first one is an option in my book group for August so if it manages to beat 1984...
Yes, I am as fussy. I also take the dust covers off and, if it is an especially nice copy of the book I also wash my hands before reading to make sure I don't grease the pages. I have two Hardy books that are lovely hardback editions with wood graved illustrations and slipcases which I...
I tend to read childrens books every few months as there are many great ones out there and it good to have some light reading on the go, especially before bedtime. My favourite one of late is Marianne Dreams, although I also just read Jude the Obscure which is apparantly a childrens book...
The only books I ever buy online are brand new ones from amazon, but that's very rare, or ones that are out of print - and that's usually from ebay. I prefer to have the book in my hand before buying it, and there are many times when I have sifted through a whole shelf of the same book in...
What age range are you thinking of when you say 'older children'?
I noticed His Dark Materials is topping lists of 12-16 year olds and Potter is topping the lists of 5-8 year olds.
To be honest, I'm 24 and still read Mr Men books!

I have had the Earthchildren series suggested to me recently, and as I am working my way through the UKs Top 100 books of which it features I think the Clan of the Cave Bear must be quite good.
I believe there are 5 in the series, is this right? Are they very good? Can you describe the style...
Yip, totally agree with that, have thought it myself every now and then.
I am actually reading quite a few books just now, as I usually have several on the go at once. These are as follows:
River God - Wilbur Smith (my main read just now, which I only rad on the tube)
Pride and Prejudice...

Thank you for those comments. I agree we all have our own opinions and whereas we will agree with some books we will obviously disagree with others. I don't intend to ask people to defend their opinions, I ask that they give their opinions in depth to try and make me understand...
That's the problem I find with criticising the book, is because some people who absolutely love it don't look objectively at it.
I, personally, love the books. I have all five of them, and the Goblet of Fire I purchased in a very nice hardback edition with gold leaf pages and it is the...
See, I love Dickens and feel the stories he tells are very good, even if they are a bit samey and include the poor, an orphan, someone finding a relative, and someone dying. But then HP is also the same each time. It's hard not to be the same in structure when it always revolves around the...
