In short, no.
The women I know who loves books don't always have the same tastes - but then isn't that the appeal of the book club...where you get to discuss a book someone else enjoyed but you didn't?
I'll do my usual and suggest The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. An exceptionally...
Harper Lee didn't seem to like the hype that surrounded To Kill a Mockingbird and very little is now known about her. As far as I am aware, she lives on her own on the outskirts of a small town and refuses to be interviewed by anyone.
Unfortunately, the next thing we will hear about her is...
I have only read Garp and loved it. Still waiting to read Cider House Rules, but as I read Garp in September last year I feel that I need to wait a little while in case the style is too 'samey' for me.

indeed. I downloaded the trailer after this thread and see it is the same person, just looks older and has the hair that's starting to grow to be like his father's. (also downloaded the trailer for Shrek 2 - hee, looking good)

I wouldn't call anything in the books clues exactly, just that Rowling has an overall idea of where she wants to take the story and this can be used to leave certain scenarios open to elaborate on in the future.
For example, Luna in #5 seems an odd character, but the chances are this...
I use the book database from collectorz.com (which is featured in the directory and is also a banner ad on the site - keep refreshing :)), which cost something like €36.
To input books I just enter the ISBN and it performs a search to grab the details, and then you can add more personal...
I think I covered all aspects of my opinion on this in the review, and my thoughts haven't changed with time since then.
I would like to add that I have recently read last years Booker prize winner 'Vernon God Little' by DBC Pierre and I found it hauntingly similar to CITR, and perhaps on...
I recently gave my copy away so can't check, but I agree with Sally and as far as I remember he is only known as 'Boo' to the children, simply because he is a little creepy and so dominates their imaginations, living his life as a recluse and being seen as somewhat of a bogeyman in their eyes...
When I first saw your username I thought it said "Silly_sausage" which is quite a common phrase in NE England...which is where I thought the basis for your name came from :)

Hi there Sally, and welcome to the forum.
Does your interest only lay with American women writers, or are you a fan of other female writers around the world? I ask because I am quite partial to Arundhati Roy, the Indian writer who released The God of Small Things. If you are wanting to...
Hi there Daver, welcome to the forum.
I can't help out with your query as I tend to stay away from that genre of book and only ever read things such as 'My Bank Statement', which is a comedy throughout most of it, but ends in quite a depressing way. I read this monthy and it never gets...
I have Oliver Twist, and just noticed that I have the next 2 books (which come in 3 volumes altogether) so it's going to be another 2 months at least before I get one I haven't read.
ah well

A new Fortnightly magazine has been released dedicated to the wonderful Charles Dickens.
The main feature is a nicely bound hardback book of one of his stories, but the magazine itself also provides a nice insight to Dickens and the novels.
The first issue is out now and features Oliver...
ink - new book magazine released

ink is now onto the second issue, and I only just noticed it in Borders when I was there over the weekend. I must say it is very good indeed and well worth the £3.50 coverprice.
The latest issue is a Lord of...
