"The Roaches have no King" by Daniel Even Weiss might be worth a look. Moving slightly further afield Jaroslav Hasel & Vladimir Vionivich have a keen sence of humour.

Only read in July:
The Soccer War by Ryszard Kapuściński. Slightly disappointing as it's had a lot of praise. I've since started 'The Emperor' by the same author, which is about the last days of Haile Selassie.
Kenny "Not reading much at the mo" Shovel
Maradona was a great player with at times feet, and hand, of clay, but I don't buy this insistance that he's as good or better than Pele. But then I don't see why Pele is held up so highly. They are both great players, but so were Garincha, Eusebio, Best, Cyruff, Platini, Zico, Socrates and a...
The Fiancee and Other Stories by Anton Chekhov
The Red Commissar: Including Further Adventures of the Good Soldier Svejk and Other Stories by Jaroslav Hasek
and on order
My First Loves by Ivan Klima
The Soccer War by Ryszard Kapuściński

A Man of the People - Chinua Achebe - 8/10 - Can you make a difference in a corrupt society, and do the people even care if you try? Achebe dissects post-colonial Nigeria with his usual skill
Rough Crossing - Simon Schama - 8/10 - History of the Black Loyalists during and after the American...
I've only read "Sexing the Cherry" & "Oranges are not the only Fruit" by Winterson, and that was a long time ago, so I can't claim to have to much knowledge of her work. Having said that, this statement is interesting...
Kind of makes me wonder how many lauded writers out there would be...
Free is always a good price. The major problem I have with it is the alphabetical order of authors is with thier first names not surname! I'm assuming that the next version, it says this is a beta version at the moment, will include an upgrade where that is sorted out!
Klima's books tend to be tightly packed little things.
BTW - That listal site is quite easy to use and add books to. So, hint, hint, you could records your Olympic challenge books there, with a tag of which country they come from. If that was linked in your signature I'd certainly check it...
I've not read Love & Garbage, although I have enjoyed a number of his other books. Follow the link in my signature and click on books owned and then select books with the "Czech Lit" tag and you'll find them.
I like Klima a lot, and from my limited knowledge of Czech literature he seems to be...
Heinemann's African Writers Series seems to have titles from 20 different countires.
Edit: There's also lists on Wikipedia for South Asian & Latin-American authors. Don't know if they'll help you or not.
