I've read 5 (ie. nearly completed:D ) from the board list, I'm not worried I haven't read more. I tend to use lists like these to add to my fiction pile, but for non fiction I tend to pick books with subjects that I have an interest in or am interested in learning about.
My 'crappy' comment...
tartan_skirt, yep Wild Swans should definetly be on the list. I wonder what criteria the Board used.
ABC, Same here, I thought I read a great deal of non fiction too...apparently not, or perhaps I just read the crappy ones.
I recognised more titles from the Board list than the Reader...
Like Anamnesis,I found In Cold Blood to be very well constructed. The first sections with the family got me immediately involved and keen to discover how the events would unfold - whilst I was aware of the true crime, I hadn't known any details.

Roald Dahl played a huge part in forming my slightly strange imagination, so perhaps his work being on the list is understandable :D .
What I don't understand is, how on earth are these books supposed to be damaging?
Drugs and Whiskey? Wasn't it magic crystals that made the peach grow? Perhaps we did read it wrong, the magic crystals were really drugs and the entire adventure was a drug induced hallucination?
tartan_skirt, I didn't find Wally, but I spotted the naked clown straight away.:D
I remember reading somewhere that James & the Giant Peach was on the list because it encouraged children not to listen to people in authority  or something like that.
It's called Where's Wally? over here (or at least it was when i was a young'un). Perhaps he's on the banned list because of his atrocious fashion sense
Anyone able to find him in under a minute HERE?
I have no idea why most of those books are on that list, education and...
