Gabriel García Márquez: Memories Of My Melancholy Whores

Eventhough I've only read two by him, I totally get what you mean. Don't worry Wabbit, I have wanted to read that one, plus "Love in the Time of Cholera" for a pretty long time now. ;) I'll probably do it soon... I'd like to know what you thought of this book. Does it come any soon in English?

Gabriel García Márquez: Memories Of My Melancholy Whores

Wabbit, I'm SURE it's not supposed to be a fairy tale... I just got the impression people were reading it like one. I have only read "No one Writes to the Colonel" by him in addition to this one, and I liked it a lot. Eventhough I didn't like this one doesn't mean no one else will, just so...

Gabriel García Márquez: Memories Of My Melancholy Whores

I started reading this book with great anticipation because of all the talk about it, and must say I wasn’t impressed after finishing it up yesterday. It was surreal and bizarre. I didn’t see it as any type of fairy-tale. If that was the purpose of this book, I might (just might) have looked...

    Paul Auster

I read ”Oracle Night” a few days back, and liked it a lot, especially the themes that it dealt with. It was different and “new”, not the usual “nonsense” going on page after page, which is the case with many books lately. At least the ones I’ve read. The footnotes were pretty clever and not...

    greetings human beings...

Hey Umbrella! :) Welcome here. I like to wear pink socks too. :D Have you read "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Poe? I remember reading it in school, it was pretty good.

    Leo Tolstoy: Anna Karenina

Hmmmm... Ions, I don't know. I think I see where you're heading, but still I'm not sure about that one. Quite possible, but I guess I just haven't thought about it. I think I only saw the "similarities" when it comes to Anna and Levin: both VERY jealouse and "unreasonable" at times. I looked at...

Welcome leckert! I read your "story", kind of makes one sad. Anyways hope you like it here.

    Henry James

I've only read "The Portrait of a Lady" by him, and quite liked it. Isabel Archer got on my nerves at times, and hadn't it been for the ending I don't know if I'd have liked it as much as I did/do. About him being a genius, I think I have to read more by him, before deciding that, which I will do.

To read or not to read. That is the question.

    Till the last page.

    He and She

Hey Sanyuja, I agree with what most of the members have said, but I’ll just let you know what I understood and think you might have wanted… or should include… at least this is what I was left thinking… You mention marriage. In India I’m guessing “arranged-marriages” are pretty common, not so...
