I'm really proud of myself since my rampant book buying has been curbed somewhat over the last few weeks, so just one book to report:
The Big Picture by Douglas Kennedy. Loved one of his other books so much when I read it that I've been scouring the second-hand shops for any others and...
Currently whizzing through 'The Golden Fool' by Robin Hobb. Still loving her work, and realising how engaging her writing is. The loss of one of my favourite characters had been coming for the whole of the previous book to this (Fool's Errand) and I found myself reading slower and slower because...
Cajunmama,
I really really loved Outlander as well (although it was published under a different name in the UK, so I figured for a while that I had missed reading on of hers).
All the books in the series are pretty decent.
I'm liking Reel Big Fish, The Living End, HIM, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Jewel, Billy Joel, Rancid, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, Sister Hazel, The Counting Crows.....
I have an eclectic taste in music, because you can add to those: Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Elgar, various original soundtracks...
I can't really help you with the Weis and Hickman books, I'm afraid. I only read a few of them.
In terms of wizards and stuff, you might like to try any of the following authors:
David Eddings (Belgariad series)
Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth series)
Terry Brooks (Shannara series -...
Thanks Ashlea and Raraavis for taking the time to both read and comment on my piece. Your observations have most definitely been taken on board.
Ashlea - I've been concerned about the pace of the piece, but I think I can solve that with a few more drafts.
Raraavis - I didn't consider the...
I'm writing this post to ask whether other forum goers have had a similar experience to me...
It's to do with re-reading books and how many chances you tend to give a book before you write it off.
My friend and I were chatting about this. We often swap recommendations, and he likes to read...
Hmm, well thanks anyway. It's meant to be a novel-sized piece of work eventually, so this is just an extract. But, if you feel as though you can't get past the first section, I guess that is feedback to me of a sort.
I am currently reading Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb and would thoroughly recommend it. It is a cracking fantasy yarn, and I'm surprised that I came to this party so late! She's been recommended to me for ages, and I should have read her books immediately.

The human indicated that Yirri walk before him towards a building slightly larger than the others. The inside was gloomy, reflecting the overcast sky outside, and, as the Daoman ducked his...
Hi all,
I initially submitted just the start of this, but now have a fair amount and I'm looking for some feedback - especially from those amongst you who read and enjoy fantasy. What I basically want to know is whether this start intrigues you enough that you'd read on...
I'd really recommend the Trudi Canavan trilogy (only two published so far - last one out within the next few months).
I really am enjoying the Robin Hobb books as well - I have all three of her trilogies in my to-read list, so plenty to get my teeth into :)
Well, back after my week off from work and I managed to clear eight and a half books from my backlog of almost 300 :) . And some of them were really decent as well!
I read:
Carbonel - Barbara Sleigh (kiddie's book that I won off ebay. Read the sequel when I was a child and never realised...
I didn't read it for August - I read it a while ago. And I've so far read two books in August (bearing in mind it's only the second day!)
I reckon that if other people were reading it, they'd have mentioned it at least. Probably worth moving onto another book. This one is pretty daunting in...
Swimming has been helping me get through times like those. While your body travels up and down the pool, your mind is free to wander and sort things out on its own. Plus, it's a great place for inspiration to strike you if you write - at least, I find it so.
Read some poetry and marvel at the...
