Assorted Chit Chat From FAQ Posts

It took me a while, but I finally found the thread I think Ell was referring to. (And the one I was thinking of.)

    Vegitarian help please....

My sister and I are vegetarians, but we never really "replaced" the meat with something else. Sure, we'll eat quorn sometimes, but according to the nutritionist my sister consulted, there really wasn't any need for a replacement... Just make sure you eat different kinds of stuff.

Authors That Have Written A "Series"

I didn't know Harry Potter had published something, let alone a series! ;)

    Last seen...

Me too. I watched The Contender the other day. It was OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'd really like to watch a great movie again... It would make a nice change.

    The Pretender

Hehe... I think I saw most of the episodes of that show.

    Do you remember...?

Oh, I loved that! I even bought a DVD with a couple of episodes a while ago, but I haven't watched it yet. (It's too bloody expensive to my taste to have the entire box shipped over from France.) Other shows I watched are Buiten de Zone, Mik, Mak en Mon, Samson, Merlina and loads of other...

    Dubbing v Subbing

Well, now that we have DVD's, we can compare those versions without having to pay too much.

    Dubbing v Subbing

I don't think the German, French or Spanish get much say in the matter though... Aren't most movies released in a dubbed version there? Even in Wallonie most movies are dubbed (I think only La Deux airs original versions).

    Siska...fellow europeans

I have fond memories of some German krimi... We used to watch them on Sunday evenings. "Ein Fall für zwei" was much more popular with my siblings than Derrick or anything else ever was though.

    Dubbing v Subbing

I'm so addicted to subtitles I even put them on when I watch the BBC. I actually like subtitles in the same language best (unless it's a language I really don't understand), because they make the watching process easier, IMO.

Don't worry, I never introduced myself either. ;)

Still, your threads have 12 replies on average, and that's not bad, is it?

    Dubbing v Subbing

So what are everybody's thoughts on the dubbing of movies and or television shows? I personally hate dubbing from the bottom of my heart. I can't watch dubbed movies or shows (though I have to admit I'm hypocritical enough to sometimes watch a dubbed documentary; also, I did see a few dubbed...

    Siska...fellow europeans

Don't worry, I googled it myself. It airs (aired?) on ZDF apparently. *shudders* Poor you!

Book Recomendations - Situation in Africa

There are plenty of books about that... Just look up "Congo" or "Rwanda" on Amazon and you'll get thousands of titles (mostly non fiction ones). If you want a quick introduction to the subject, you might want to give websites like Human Rights Watch a look. They offer articles and timelines...

    Siska...fellow europeans

I haven't seen it, but I can see how it would be confusing to see the same actors in different roles -- a bit like a soap opera or a sketch show. (We have ARD and ZDF here, does it air on either of those? I'm always looking to improve my German. ;))

    Writing Letters

That is a bit of a problem, yes.

    House

Yes, books. (Well, it might still be book in the singular...) His first novel was The Gun Seller and his second was scheduled for 2005 or 2006 I think. I knew Fry was a writer, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I saw Laurie had tried his hand at writing too. I was browsing the...

Seeing your own name in a book.

I think I'm the only person (dead or alive) with this particular name, so... It would definitely be creepy if I saw it in print somewhere.
