    Modern classics of all kinds

Actually, no, I didn't. But I thought the about.com link you posted was a good start. And, alas, I have to confess. I have read and looked at many a classic book and most have not been very appealing. So, classic doesn't give me an "oh boy" feeling, either old or modern. And I especially...

    Modern classics of all kinds

Exactamundo! So, I'm waiting for the criteria. /tapping foot, tap, tap, tap/ And the starting date. /tick, tick, tick/ Just raggin ya, but do you think the criteria are settled?

    Modern classics of all kinds

Well, in the absence of agreed definitions, aren't we currently heading toward anyone posting books they thought were really "great," irrespective of what is called recent or classic? Sort of like "Best Books I have Ever Read in my Life." Just askin', hopin' to precipitate some sort of...

    E-book Etiquette?

I guess we have different experiences of losing books, purses snatched, spam sent in our name from stolen contacts, and reading different articles about identity theft and secure passwords. I also lock my front door when I leave my house, and my car in the parking lot (which still did not...

    Modern classics of all kinds

I tend to think memorable, and I tend to give higher grades to works that deviate from their kind and set new directions. But I think it's anyone's guess what will be on the shelves 50 years from now. Or 100. Depends. "Tale of Two Cities"? Who here knows? "Madame Bovary"? Likewise. "Mrs...

    E-book Etiquette?

I don't know any electronic devices of mine that I wouldn't care about. They all cost money -- mine. I keep mine close, just like my wallet. Not to mention personal information and identity theft.

    Modern classics of all kinds

When I hear the phrase "modern classic," I have two questions: What is "modern"? What is "classic"?

    What is Poetry?

When I write what I call poetry, I like to think that it has some discernible poetic qualities, even if irregular, and that the results might indeed be called poems. Amateur "poet" that I am, I certainly recognize that better poets than I exist (and their number is indeed legion) and they might...

    The Bible

Its own category. Same as, for example, biography, engineering, travel, science, cookbooks, dictionaries, history, childrens, YA, all of which had their separate categories on the shelves at my now defunct Borders bookstore and at my current Barnes and Noble pretty much.. :)

    E-book Etiquette?

Well, there were colleagues of mine for whom I found it to be definitely not OK. When I asked one about his interest in my books, he said he was looking to see who had what books so he could know where to borrow them. Considering my hard and fast rule not to lend my books out -- because it was...

    E-book Etiquette?

My e-book is ONLY handled by my wife or myself, as with any of our property. And neither of us has sticky fingers of any sort. No problems here. :D

What do you think about "fifty Shades of Gray"?

They take one out of one's ordinary life. Like day-time soaps of yore. Ever hear The Romance of Helen Trent (hint: on radio)?

What do you think about "fifty Shades of Gray"?

Sorry to have to say that after 10 more pages -- at page 30 or so -- I have to put it aside. The plot and the dialog are just too bold and utterly improbable for me. Too bad :( Now returning to The Sound and the Fury to finish it. Hope you enjoy Bared, if you get to it. :) Have a good day.
