David Starkey's biography is good and not too too dry. The book did accompany his TV series, but it is closer to an academic biography than a bodice ripper. I do suspect though that he is an admirer of Elizabeth rather than 100 percent disinterested (uninterested?).

This is a very amusing read. However, it is better as the audio CD. Alan Bennettt reads it and his pitching of the Queen is priceless.

A warning about the HHGTTG series - I think the thrid or fouth volume was written under duress to fulfill Adam's contract with his publisher. Bascally, he said he didn't want to do it. The series doesn't reflect the brilliance and freshness of the first book.
