Thank you. That answered my questions.
It's amusing when two similar movies are made at the same time. It makes you wonder if one of them stole the idea.
Those two books by Mercedes Lackey are the first two trilogies in the Valdemar universe.
I would also recommend:
Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones - also the movie.
The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley
The Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K. Le Guin
Rebel...
I went to see a preview of the movie "The Descent" on Thursday. It has already been released in Europe, but it will be released here in the United States on August 4th with a shorter ending. I didn't really understand what happened at the very end of the film, so could someone who has already...
How about trying Mercedes Lackey's books "Arrows Of The Queen" and "Magic's Pawn". If you like them, she has written lots more books set in this same universe.
The "A" format paperback is the most common paperback size. The "B" format paperback is slightly smaller than a hardback. Different size fonts and page margins cause the different number of pages.
Hardbacks and paperbacks almost always have exactly the same text, except that the reprints...
Sometimes the book store that hosts the book signing requires that you purchase the current book at that book store, and they make you show a cash register receipt before you can get in line. If the book signing advertisement does not state any requirements, usually the authors are happy to...
This CNN article also says that Intermittent Explosive Disorder has been included in the manual psychiatrists use to diagnose mental illness for a couple of decades, that most sufferers in the study had other emotional disorders or drug or alcohol problems, and that treatment with...
I was drawing a complete blank on this book, and then I suddendly remembered: this scene is at the end of David Brin's Glory Season. This is a very good book about a "lost world" ruled by women, twin teenage girls who are trying to find a job to support themselves, and a (human) male who is sent...
This is a long shot, but could this be Walkabout, by James Vance Marshall?
"Two urban children (14 year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy)) are stranded in the Australian desert when their father committed suicide. When food and water nearly run out, they meet an Aborigine boy on 'walkabout': a...
You do know that Google has a separate section for images, don't you? (You type in your search terms and click on "Images" insead of "Search").
Maybe I'm missing the point. Why are you drawing on a ceiling tile? And why not use Google?
You can make small amounts of money by buying used books (at garage sales and rummage sales and book sales) and reselling them on an internet auction site. You can specialize in what type of books you know well, but it takes a lot of time and effort and knowledge. You don't have set hours, and...
A.E. van Vogt claimed that Ridley Scott plagiarised his 1939 story "Discord in Scarlet" (which he had also incorporated in the 1950 novel "Voyage of the Space Beagle").
This is a link to the Wikipedia article about "Voyage Of The Space Beagle", and this article has lots of spoilers.
Lives of the Monster Dogs by Kirsten Bakis, maybe?
"Here is a first novel like no other: a spellbinding tale that both creates its own fully realized world perspective and provides an incisive look at the ways that humans and animals resemble each other. A group of elegant monster dogs in...
Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini, maybe?
Peter Blood, an Irish physician and soldier in England in the 1680's, is wrongly convicted of treason and sentenced to indentured slavery in the Caribbean. He escapes and becomes the most feared pirate captain on the Spanish Main, but all the glory of...
Time Cat, by Lloyd Alexander, maybe?
"Inspired by his cat's ability to appear and disappear without his noticing it, Lloyd Alexander crafted a magical fantasy about Jason and his black cat Gareth. Gareth tells Jason that cats do not actually have nine lives, but nine trips. They can go live...
One of the classic signs of Borderline Personality Disorder is heavy favoritism of one child, and complete indifference/abuse of another child. You cannot do much to change the behavior of these people (because they are perfect in their own twisted little minds), but you can reach out to their...
Mercedes Lackey is awesome. She’s one of my favorite authors. She’s written several fairy tales: The Black Swan, Firebird, The Fairy Godmother, The Eagle and the Nightingales, The Fire Rose, Gates of Sleep, Phoenix and Ashes, and The Serpent's Shadow.
I would also recommend these books...
