    J.M. Barrie: Peter Pan

Has anyone read this book to their children? I have just started reading it to my 6 year old daughter. We're enjoying it, but I am so surprised with Peter Pan himself. He is so different to the Peter Pan I grew up loving from the Disney cartoon. We are not very far into it yet, only just...

i just found out about R.A salvator and terry goodkind

Hmm, let me see. I enjoy reading all types of books, but I find some to be more 'fun' than others. It's like I thoroughly enjoy going on a long bushwalk and experiencing all that nature has to offer me. It is a very nice experience. However, it is not something I would say is 'fun'...

Just When I Think I've Heard It All

I agree with you whole heartedly on this. I don't have ten kids, but I do have two and I always decide how much I will spend on them and make sure that I spend the same amount on both. I just can't understand why parents would do this to their child. Surely if they didn't really have the...

i just found out about R.A salvator and terry goodkind

I'm not sure why you hate it when people say that Savitore is fun when you just agreed with it. I am not putting Salvitore down. Like you, I have read his books and enjoyed them. In fact, now days, I tend to only read things for fun. If it's too much like hard work I don't tend to bother...

    Who else loathes..

I enjoyed The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I found the language a little archaic at times, as I did with his writing style, but I really enjoyed the stories. I read the three LotR books fairly quickly and think that if I had of gone slower I wouldn't have enjoyed them quite as much.

I wouldn't say that Salvitore is anything like Tolkien, really. I enjoyed reading his books, but you have to remember that they are fun. They are not great pieces of literature, so if you start them expecting that, you'll be very disappointed.

    Sara Douglass

I have read the Battle Axis Trilogy and the Wayfarer Redemption trilogy. I enjoyed them both equally. I've not read anything else of hers though, so I can't comment on how they are. I really liked the Battle Axis trilogy when I first started it because it was unlike other fantasy novels I...

    Book or e-book?

I prefer paper. I don't mind doing sopme work on the computer or browsing forums, but I much prefer pen and paper. If I write something I always write it on paper before typing it. I just don't seem to think as clearly when I'm reading on the computer.

    Good Classics

War and Peace, Oliver Twist, Northanger Abbey (and most of Jane Austen's other books, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and many others I just can't think of right now.

    Perception of reading/readers..from family?

I understand how you feel. I didn't start uni until I was 21 and by that time I was married and had had my first child only months before. When I visited my husband's family, my sister-in-law said, "So what are you doing this for? What, exactly, is it going to give you?" I didn't know what...

    C.S. Lewis

Good point Mehastings. He was a product of his times, just as we are products of our own times. I have only read, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, so am not sure about his writing style in other books. I have always liked The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the way he tells the...

Old Christmas Threads (gifts, well wishes, etc)

Hehehe, my sister bought me The Da Vinci Code, so I will now be able to read it and see if it is as bad as many say. :)

Briar Rose is excellent. Our senior students read it and like it, so perhaps that may be ok for you.

Who decides what kids should read?

Very good point abecedarian. Having double standards doesn't make our kids have more respect for us, but less. I don't like it when I see that books are banned. As a parent, I feel that it is my job and my job alone, to decide what my kids can and can't read and I don't appreciate someone...

A question for parents of small children

I have never used any videos to teach either of my kids to read or count or anything else. I didn't attempt to teach them to read before they went to school. I figure they will spend from 5-17 at school reading and writing, so let them play while they are litle and at home. Of course I taught...

    Holiday newsletters

I agree with you. I don't like getting letters from friends knowing that the same letter was sent to 20 other friends.
