Drowned Moon - a short story collection by Glenn Blake, one of my college profs. I loaned it to someone ages ago and never got it back, so I was happy to see it again.
My first thought is, start with the action, not the description. It also might be easier to read in a more traditional paragraph structure. I rarely tell someone to use less adjectives, but sometimes they do clutter up the action a bit. The dialogue seems a bit formulaic, and you might want...
A couple recent posts made me think of this topic:
Are there any types of activities in books you don't want to read about?
For me, it's a rape scene. If I know there's one in the book, I won't read it. Tend to avoid movies that are that way, too.
There's also a movie I saw a few...
I had the same thing happen with Stephen King, I read all I could get my hands on and then one day after the Dark Half, never picked up another one. I might reread Christine or Firestarter one day, but right now the only one I own is The Eye of the Dragon, which is fantasy and completely...
On my "TBR" list, actually my to be re-read list. It's a good, welcoming place to start. I suggest that once you get into the heavy stuff you find someone to talk it out with, I know that none of the stuff I read in college made any sense until I had class lecture and discussion on it.
Was quite impressed, it's difficult to create a modern allegory that has relevance and meaning. The nameless characters in a nameless city are haunting despite being undefined, as each is the stand in for a human response. We as readers slip in and out of their heads easily, which is one...
Here I am! I pretty much am the same I think, tho in person I have the disadvantage of zoning off frequently and not paying attention to what is going on around me, which doesn't come thru on a forum.
I've been in other forums that are not very carefully monitored where there exist a lot of...
I don't care either way, since I tend not to stop at the end of the chapter anyway. For some reason, I usually stop about halfway into a chapter. I find it easier to get back into it when I pick it up again that way.
All of the above. I'll even do a quick browse at the grocery store. My favorite for new book shopping is Borders (mostly b/c I used to work there, but they have a slightly better selection than B&N, too) and for used, I like ones that have a section of old, musty hardcovers.
I do occasionally, generally because I don't have the right book with me when i'm out somewhere, but do for some reason have another one. The only thing good about it is that I start into the other book without a break. Otherwise, I tend to read a few magazines in between. I need to let my...
