I've never been tested but I think I read at a average to slightly above average speed. A book a week is normal for me, depending on my work hours and social life. I generally only re-read absolute favourites and that is more to see the story from a different perspective once I've read all/more...
Thx BeerWench13, I really have no idea how to read those pronunciation guides. Tie-kee is how I have been pronuncing it, so got a bit confused when I saw it suggested otherwise.
thx as well, although your whole vowel-shifting link messed me up even more!! hmmmm I don't feel stupid :o
My avatar is Grug, he is a Australian kids book character that I loved. He has the best outlook on life, if everyone had a little more Grug in them the world would be a better place. Here is a little Grug info
Others have already posted my most of my fav authors, so I'll say:
Jennifer Fallon, particularly the Demon Child trilogy, the Hythrun chronicles and the Tide Lords.
also Fiona McIntosh, Trinity series and Percheron series.
Sara Douglass - Wayfarer Redemption series
These authors...

Thanks RainbowGurl, I'm having fun so far!
Thanks pearshaker, we have SA, WA and Qld here so far.....surely there are a few Vics, Territorians, Sydneysiders and Tassie Devils here somewhere :)
Tyche, is a goddess of fortune and prosperity and also means 'luck' in greek. I came across it when I was looking on the net for a name for my cat, I liked it so much I used it for me and named my cat after another god :) I presumed it was pronounced similar to Psyche, but recently I have read...
Yup, already knew this ;) Have read them all. Sara Douglass is an Aussie writer, so they were released here first. The first three books ( BattleAxe, Enchanter, StarMan) were released in Australia as the Axis Trilogy, the second three ( Sinner, Pilgrim, and Crusader) were released as the...
I'm 31, my mum read to me from birth and she says I knew the alphabet and most basic words when I started school. Reading has always been easy for me, I have always read for pleasure. I was the kid that lived in the library. I used to sneak books off mums bookshelf when I got sick of my kids...
A friend living in Bristol sent me a Gogol Bordello CD - Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike. Absolute gold. Also recently bought Super Taranta. They are on high rotation on my ipod. Hope they come to Aussieland soon, they would rock at the Big Day Out or Womad.
We have no squirrels in Aussieland, but we do have many, many rabbits that were brought here a couple hundred years ago....the squirrels advance guard apparantly in their evil plan for world domination. I shall immediately inform the Prime Minister of the need to change our banana to form...
This is so me as well, although the tea would be coffee and the dog is a cat in my world. I also read for at least 10 mins before sleeping and my days off work always involve breakfast with a book.
Very true. My partner only reads the newspaper, but he enjoys listening to an audio book most...
It's hard to pick just a couple!
Daemon and Lucivar from Anne Bishops Black Jewels series - Two dangerous damaged brothers that still manage a sense of humour and honor
Phedre no Delaunay - Jacqueline Careys Kushiels Legacy & Imriel trilogy - simply the most stunning char I've ever...
I have 2 bookcases, one for fiction, one for nonifiction. Non-fic is grouped by subject. Fiction is by series grouped together, though I have just realised while writing this and looking at my bookcases that I also sort by preference, so all my faves are on the top shelf down to least preferred...
Mathius I will back you on Sara Douglass and add to it as well. In Australia she has 2 related trilogies - (1) the Axis tril, (2) the Wayfarer Redemption and a couple of, we thought, standalones; Beyond the Hanging Wall and Threshold. This year she released the start of another tril that ties...
breading1, I understand where you are coming from, there are common elements in fantasy but I think the same can be said of many other genres too and those with far less creativity and imagination involved.
The current writers I read have some or most of those elements but also have so much...
It's good to see some other Aussies on here, we can let everyone know about some of our great home-grown authors and discover some that may not be published here.
I have read some SL before, several of the later Cynsters, but as the first one I picked up from the library was Lucifers story I...
Hi Pearshaker, I can't really say welcome seeing as I only joined here yesterday but I will say Hi to another Aussie. I've read some Stephanie Laurens too, but not the one you are currently on. Let me know if its any good :)
