    A case for Christ

I bought this book for my brother (per his request) for his baptismal. I think I got it at half.com or through amazon marketplace. Had a really hard time finding it at a regular retail bookstore. Try...

    Currently Reading

I just started A False Sense of Well Being by Jeanne Braselton. So far, so good. I needed something light after The Virgin Suicides.

    Are you offended - really????

As a newbie, I am still feeling my way around and getting the feel for people's varying personalities and writing styles. If there is a post I find offensive, or think would offend me, I avoid it. Outside of outright personal attacks, I believe it's my responsibility to avoid being offended...

    Must Vent

Many thanks for your input! I gave it a lot of thought overnight - and they even upped the salary by another $1,000 this morning. I left the position due to personality clashes with people in the department. Since I left, there has been complete turnover. So, it is definitely more appealing...

    Must Vent

hah! My work woes led to the tangent of reincarnation and mass suicide. Who would've thought... And - buying a house would make me happy. It will take at least an extra 10% for me to buy a house around here. I'm really just having a really crummy day. Ahh well, hopefully it will get...

    Must Vent

One of my staff upped and quit on me today. There is a Board of Directors meeting on Thursday for which I have to prepare a ton of info. Plus this is the week of other stuff with which I have to deal (a/p, payroll, etc...). Oh, and my previous employer made me a job offer today for only...

Does a pharmacist have the right?

Ahh yes. I've been hearing about this a lot lately since I am an Illinois resident. What is insane is that pharmacists are refusing to fill them based on what the prescription *could* be used for, not necessarily its intended purpose. For example: one woman had a medication prescribed for...

    best concert

I'm curious too. I went to a Bettie Serveert Concert in February. Their show was great.

    Upcoming Movies?

I wholeheartedly agree and type this while wearing my ep3 t-shirt.

    best concert

Toad the Wet Sprocket, reunion tour, 2003, Chicago. Small club (<=1500 audience), nice... They were my favorite band, and I had passed on the opportunity to go to their 1998/1999 New Year's Eve show. A month later, they broke up. So when they reunited....ahh, sweet bliss.

    Only in the UK

I used to get flack from my friends for taking my laptop into the kitchen, but I think it's great too - especially for recipes. Yay!

    Robert Jordan: Infinity of Heaven

I see many early morning reading sessions in my future... perhaps evenings sitting on my kitchen floor (like the 2 days I wasted reading CoT all the way through to see if anything, anything at all happened - that still makes me mad)... I will not start a new series by him though. He sucked...

Doesn't everyone like puppies? ;) Welcome to the forum!

    Robert Jordan: Infinity of Heaven

This thought makes me sick - how in the world could he do that? Ahhhhh!! I have reread the WoT series so many freakin' times, it makes me ill. The books are almost like children to me. But sheesh - after CoT, he needs to write at least two killer books to finish off all the loose ends that...

David Sedaris: Me Talk Pretty One Day

I read about 10 pages into this book and couldn't stand it. I'm starting to think I might be the only one. There was some "off" tone that I got from it... But I love Augusten Burroughs and HIGHLY recommend Running with Scissors and Dry (this one especially had me laughing and crying - good...

    Perplex City

Off topic - did you see the prequel to the film Cube? Is that worthwhile? There was a game similar to this in the US, I want to say Majestic, but it was shut down after the September 11 attacks... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/new_media/1243551.stm

    Quirks, Habits & Superstitions

I actually bought a friend of mine a bookmark before I lent her one of my books because I abhor dogears. I, too, am particular about the binding breaking. I read very, very carefully. Oddly enough, one of my kitties likes to chew on the corners of book covers. I used to get very angry...

    So, then my boss said...

And I thought I was alone. If my supervisor walks into my office, I have to stop whatever I'm doing - phone call, project, email, whatever to address what she needs. And, whatever she needs must take precendence at that moment, even if it is something she is perfectly capable of doing for...

Most recognizable person in the world

If it is 2007 and Hillary has the dem nomination - probably her. Right now though, I would say Bill. I was surprised how little coverage Johnny Cochoran's (sp?) death received. I will forever remember, "If the glove doesn't fit - you must acquit!" Then again, my media consumption is...

Most recognizable person in the world

I think a Clinton death would be huge news - I heard all about Bill's surgeries on news radio for two days in a row last month.
