Truth aside, can anyone honestly say they didn't try this as soon as they read it, even if you have read this statement many times before and also tried it many times before?
Ohhhh, who spoiled a death scene for you? That really sucks. I too am afraid of being told anything about the final book beforehand. Maybe I'll stay at home with the radio and television off from now until July, only venturing out to get the book (and to see OotP, of course :) )
I agree with having to be interested, sometimes you can lose a whole day to a book and not realise until you have to switch on a lightbulb to continue!
I think a lot of the time my rate increases as I move through the book. I kind of trawl the first sections, getting to know characters, plot...
Hi, and welcome!
There are many HP fans on here eagerly awaiting book 7 as much as you two (myself including - come on, July!). You may have to just buy two copies and race each other!
I saw it when it was at the cinema. Absolutely loved it, particularly the relationship between Olive and the brother (been awhile, what was his name?) I was rolling in the aisles when they Great stuff. And it's good to see Steve Carrell doing something different, I thought he was very good.
I would only see it because it was shot in Melbourne and I could say "I've been there," or "I used to shop there all the time," or "That's the Docklands, that's the MCG." (I have no idea if those places are even in it).
Admittedly a little sad, I know, but I do love the city!
Oh, and the Cage...
Really? I hadn't heard anything about it being extremely gory - although with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright it's just expected, I think. It is getting an international release, although I'm not sure if it's out here (Oz) yet, as my local cinema may not even get it, and who can be bothered checking...
The only good crime book I've ever read was In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead by James Lee Burke. I've tried to read Cornwell but couldn't get through more than a couple of chapters. Ditto Grisham, although he's more law, right?
Only 7 or 8 times? How dare you call yourself a fan! :D
JK. I'm glad there are lots of people like me who can't get enough of these films.
I've already forgotten what other people have written in this thread, but this is IMDBs top fantasy movies list.
Good to see The Wizard of Oz...
Maybe a custody Olympics is in order for these two? They could compete in such parenting activities as remembering to buckle children in when driving, remembering to hold the children to prevent them dropping to the ground, likelihood of parent forcing child to do disgucting duet in order to...
I did sit down for a few hours yesterday and continued 'Salems Lot. I was actually about halfway through already , which surprised me, as I hadn't remembered reading that much of it! Anyway, I'm thoroughly hooked now, and I had to sleep facing the door last night (something I've been trying to...
Henry Bowers is one of the scariest characters I have ever come across in a novel. So very intimidating - and he only gets worse
Reading any conversation that Eddie has with his mother gives me the shivers. Her 'voice' has the same effect as fingernails down a blackboard for me.
I...
I once bought a replacement copy of my favourite book (having read my old one to tatters), only to find that an entire section had been printed twice! It was something like forty pages in the mid-section - I had finished reading part of a chapter and turned the page, only to begin the chapter...
I haven't read any of his work, but I've heard Henry James can be quite 'freaky' in a mind-bendy fashion. Correct me if I'm wrong, people!
Ifpiper (hello! and welcome!), I'm the biggest if King fans, but I haven't been able to get through Salems Lot yet. Perhaps I'll spend the rest of the day...
I'm thinking of asking for the day off as well, Baddie, and possibly the next couple of days too, so that I can hole up in my flat with the curtains drawn and ignore any knocks on the door for as long as it takes me to finish. Coffee and two-minute noodles, see you in July!
Yep, and it's one of my favourite books. The detail with which the town is described and the jumping between time periods are both great. Not one of King's scariest novels, but definitely one the best. Read it and then tell me you're not terrified of clowns, I dare you!
Oh, and It is where my...
