Caterers are getting here for the Christmas party in 7 short hours, no flapjacks but what they can do with cheesecake is marvelous.
I liked King Arthur OK, it could've been a much better movie but it was an interesting premise and the casting was incredible. kiera knightley just smolders. but, the plot could've been a wee bit better. got the idea that maybe it was originally scripted to be a darker film, and it was edited...
There's lots more poetry I want to read, hopefully someone will notice all that Pablo Neruda on my Amazon wishlist (he counts as classic, right?) I'd like to read more of the Victorians, Dickens, Trollope, Thackery, Henry James. I've read quite a few classics since I have a degree in English...
The movies I hear referenced most often are Quest for the Holy Grail, Clerks, and Office Space. I think it's the "cult" movies that have crept into slang, by quoting those you reaffirm your membership in the group.
I've loaned/given him so many books now, I think we're even. :p
Am loving Snow Crash, I haven't read anything like it before (the Cyber Punk stuff.) Should've read in 10 years ago when it was first recommended to me.

While these may not be the first, they are the first to make an impression:
Sci Fi - A Princess of Mars, Edgar Rice Burroughs (borrowed from my brother without his knowledge:D)
Fantasy - Magic's Pawn, Mercedes Lackey
Horror - something by Stephen King, can't remember the first I read...
