I didn't even manage to finish one this month (if you don't include texts) because I have been so busy with Uni. I'm still stuck on I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan.
Witi Ihimaera would probably be the most prolific NZ author (he wrote The Whale Rider, which is okay but might be a bit hard to understand if you don't know the main Maori terms such as aroha or whanau, which are used quite a bit in the book.).
Margaret Mahy is another major author, but I think...
I think that both ideas (from ABC and Moto) are fantastic. The bookmark would probably excite more interest, but the post-it note would be found by more people (because, as Moto said, the librarians are less likely to find and remove it). The bookmark idea would be perfect for released BC books.
I agree with VR - I can't remember ever being spanked, but I think that I would spank my children as an absolute last resort. Children are not traumatised by being smacked, nor do I think that it teaches children to be violent - does putting a child in time-out teach it that it is ok to isolate...
I'm reading a whole bunch of Philosophy texts at the moment, mostly on Epistemology and Metaphysics (we have a test on Wednesday involving both of these for my Philosophy class). I haven't really read much on this before, so I'm finding it really interesting.
I'm also slowly working my way...
Perhaps they have started all of them but never finished? I have never been able to finish any Dickens that I have started, with the exception of A Christmas Carol. I just find his style so long-winded and monotonous. I have been told to try A Tale of Two Cities, though, as apparently the style...
Today I came home and found a RABCK (Random Act of Book Crossing Kindness) waiting for me - 253 by Geoff Ryman. It's a book that I've been looking for for ages but have been unable to find, so I'm so grateful for the kind BookCrossing member and her surpise act of kindness!! (the member who sent...
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I found this classic the most accessible, with a great setting and intriguing plotline. It also has really great morals :D
I think I must have heard of the Dill thing as it seemed familiar when I read it, but I had forgotten about that - how interesting!
As for the second question - I'll have to get a copy and re-read that part before I can answer, as I have no recollection of that conversation!
I put more of my trust in the opinion of Atticus rather than Scout. Sure, Scout does openly declare him to be a mockingbird, but Atticus was the first to bring up the whole idea of a mockingbird. While he was speaking more of Tom at the time, there's no doubt that Boo was also included in his...
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I can't remember Atticus saying that, but if he did then I think that it is good evidence that Boo did indeed stab his father.
Does killing a person just about to murder two children that Boo was obviously fond of really make him a bad person? Read any other...
Welcome :D
Wow, what a wide range of interests! Something tells me that your posts will be incredibly interesting. I look forward to them - don't be shy! :)
I used to do this a lot when I was younger, but I stopped doing so after getting burned out on JM Auel's series as a result of my reading them one after another.
My name, Jacinta, was chosen because my parents liked it (they first saw the name Jacinda, but decided they liked the variation better). It comes from Spanish roots, and I believe it comes from the name for a mountain flower, the Hyacinth.
