Harper Lee: To Kill A Mockingbird

Was it ever actually established that he did stab his father with the scissors? I thought that this was just a rumor created by the gossips and children in the town (an action that I believe was thoroughly panned in the book). But anyhow, by today's standards I don't think that Atticus would...

    Who here eats organic?

I really don't get the big deal over organic food - perhaps it has something to do with living in a country with a huge population (the craze hasn't really hit here, as our normal food has around 1/3 less chemicals than food in, say, the UK)?

    Jasper Fforde -cool stuff!

I think that it's the third - the first is The Eyre Affair and I believe the next is The Big Over Easy.

    Virginia Woolf

SFG, novella is correct in saying that she never tried to suggest that there was no conflict at all in the text. Reading back through the posts shows this clearly. What you should be discussing is whether she was right in saying that there was no conflict between the Ramseys.

    Good chick lit.

The only chick lit I have read (that I can recall) were One for the Money by Janet Evanovitch and Watermelon by Marian Keyes. While both were amusing at times, chick lit really isn't my thing. Perhaps it's that I'm not yet at an age where I can relate to the main character.

    The Book Depository

Not yet as I'm currently on a book-buying embargo, but once that's over I will definitely be ordering a few more obscure ones from there.

    Share ebooks with me

While I agree with everything said, I just wanted to point something out. Wouldn't what SFG just said above relate to you buying a book and then lending it to someone once you have finished? There is no difference between that and what alfinge is doing, as long as alfinge paid for the books...

    Other choices...(bit of a rant)

Yeah, this is what happens here. I thought that voting for an MP for your region as well as an overall party vote was what was done everywhere around the world :o. The minor parties also get a say in the form of alliances with the major parties - because the seats in Parliament reflect the...

    Typos or Mistakes in Books

I don't really mind if there are spelling mistakes in books - I know what they are trying to say most of the time anyway - but factual errors do get to me a bit. You'd think that the author could take just a few minutes to google a certain fact in order to get it correct - whats a few minutes in...

    Other choices...(bit of a rant)

I don't think that it is just America that has this problem - it exists here in NZ as well. I know a lot of people who supported one of the "minor" parties last election, but didn't vote for them as they saw it as a "wasted vote because they aren't going to get in anyway". I think...

    Disagree with ending?

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. The ending was too unrealistic and fantastical.

    The Book Depository

Yeah, I would love to use Amazon, as their used prices are extremely cheap, but they charge a fortune in shipping to NZ. I started this thread mainly for the people who live outside the UK and US, and who therefore find it hard to get books from places like Amazon at a relatively low cost.
