    Random Facts Thread

I learned the other day that humans, dolphins, apes and possibly elephants are the only known animals to be able to recognise their own refelction in a mirror.

Global Warming: Is it Real or is it Not?

I don't think that many would argue that the Earth is warming - it's just the source of that warming that is the major point of conflict. When doing my project, I read that over the past century the Earth has been through a mini-Ice Age, if you will. The climate has actually been far colder than...

Global Warming: Is it Real or is it Not?

You can tell from rocks and fossils etc. I'm not really sure how, but I know that that is how they know that the Earth has been through periods of warming and cooling. There were actually periods in the history of the Earth when greenhouse gases were much more abundant than they are now. This...

    Question Game

Winter. I love sitting next to the fire reading while it's raining or snowing outside. I also love falling asleep to the sound of rain. What's one thing you look for in a potential partner?

Why would you not consider Agatha Christy to be a great writer? She revolutionised her genre.

    Passing on books.

I've done this a couple of times with BookCrossing. The only one that has been caught (to my knowledge) is Blindness by Jose Saramago.

    Kazuo Ishiguro

I always shared your point of view, Flor, until reading Heteronym's post, and another review commenting on the unreliability as Stevens as a narrator. Perhaps the conversations were intimate only to Stevens? It is possible that he, being so proper in thoughts and manner, read more into it than...

Oh, heavens! I would not be mad at you! I admire your spunk.

    The "Ctrl+V" Game

Ah, we had to learn that one at primary school for ANZAC Day - the day where we commemorate all of our fallen soldiers, especially the ones who died at Gallipoli. We wear little pin-on poppies as a sign of our support.

    The Evil "Wish" Game

Granted, but the foreign accent is due to the fact that they live on the opposite side of the world, and neither of you have the means to ever meet in person. I wish that someday I will win a Nobel prize.

Number of Browsers in your HD?

I am now using FireFox 2.0.0.1 as I got incredibly annoyed with IE pages always having errors. I really like how you can open up links in tabs rather than seperate windows.

Up/Downloading books as torrents Right or Wrong?

I'm also guilty of downloading music and tv programmes, but I have never downloaded e books. Like others, I find it hard to sit and read at the computer for extended periods of time. I am downloading audio books from Project Gutenberg, though, to listen to as I go walking (I'm currently...

Yay, an ally! I thought I'd be all alone on this one :D

Global Warming: Is it Real or is it Not?

Why do you say that? And in what way is it real? That humans are emitting greenhouse gases that are increasing global temperatures? (The increasing temperature thing isn't even solid fact, by the way. Many meterologists claim that the devices used to detect the temperature increases are merely...

Global Warming: Is it Real or is it Not?

I don't think that it is real - I did a huge project on it last year in biology. The scientists that assert that it is real are (a majority of the time) scientists who are knowledgable in fields other than meterology. People wouldn't turn to an astronomer in order to understand the human genome...

Do You Have Good Or Bad Feng Shui?

Life is good, but why stop there? Maximize your energy reserves by creating a consistent power position in life (face the door in all positions: while you cook, work or sit up in bed), and you will see even better days. Keep up the clutter clearing, and make every room in your home a place...
