I liked the growing up, as well. Its hard to believe how much they've changed :) I didn't think the trailer was bad, just vague as to what happens in the movie.
I agree with Freya, that the setting of a boarding school plus magic is a good combination. Almost everyone can relate to the school experience and magic always seems to attract people.
I agree that the series and movies have been overhyped, but I haven't really let that bother me. I tend...
Watched the trailer...gives away nothing. Of course, I read it, so I figured out what they was going on, but my husband was totally confused.
Piedro, not a bad scene selection to remove, but they have to at least keep part of the Quidditch world cup...the death eaters end up there and that's...
I'm from the south in the US, which is supposedly reknown for the ability of women to smalltalk. This must have passed me by, as I have to have something of substance to talk about or I just can't think of what to add to a conversation. I'm not all that embarrassed by it, though. I figure its...
Anything, but I usually read over lunch and dinner (along with numerous other times), as I'm either at work or at home eating long before my husband arrives home.
But cookie dough is so tasty...unfortunately, the real thing is not overly healthy.
Jenn, Orange with licorice? YUCK! I'm glad I've never heard of that (and doubly glad I haven't had to try it)
I like to eat out the cookie dough bits...it makes my husband mad when he gets to the ice cream and there are significantly less cookie doughs than when he bought it :)
Yes, I did enjoy them. Sum of All Fears was a favorite, but Cardinal of the Kremlin stands out as my most favorite. I haven't read the recent ones, though my dad keeps wanting me to read the one with a shoot-up in fashion square in Charlottesville, Virginia...we go shopping there quite a bit...
I would say exposure has more to do with what one likes than gender. I prefer fiction, which tends to coincide with my father's reading preferences more than my mother's. It turns out that we have very similar tastes in books and genres, and he's the only person I'll take a recommendation from...
I took AP English, and thus tested out of taking any English classes. My major was chemical engineering, thus I read no literature books in my four years at college. It really does depend upon your major and the classes you choose to take.
Well said.
I've never understood why those who only want seriousness just pass on reading the non-serious threads (I know I skip many of the non-serious threads, because they simply don't interest me). Ah, but maybe that's just me not feeling the need to click on every new thread.
I'd like to discuss Wabbit's post about being a moderator sometimes, and a member at others. I quite enjoy you, Wabbit, but I have to disagree here.
I am a teacher, which means that not only do I have to conduct myself in a certain way at school, but I must conduct myself in a certain way in...
Trust me, I don't need anymore stuffed animals, either, but these are too irresistable. Add stuffed animals to science and I'm there. They also make really fun baby shower gifts, and you can be sure no one else has bought the same gift as you :)
You might be interested in the Harry Potter series....not too difficult to read, but very engaging.
Diana Wynne Jones also has written two books you might be interested in: The Year of the Griffin and The Dark Lord of Derkholm. They shouldn't be too difficult as far as the writing, but...
