    Sigrid Undset

Right now I am not even sure what I think about Undset. I read Kristina Lavransdatter a long time ago and I thought it was good, although I wouldn't rate it as one of my favourites. Last year I read The Master of Hestviken and it finished in a charity shop. The writing is the same and I don't...

i want to speed my reading

There is a thread on a similar subject hereBut if your problem is that you get distracted by your own thoughts, it could be that sometimes you are not in the mood for reading, have too much on your mind at the moment, etc.

Seeing your own name in a book.

I don't think my mother ever read those and 'tenant' would be a weird name, wouldn't it? No, it was a children book.

Seeing your own name in a book.

And the Elitist's shall inherit the Earth

No chance, sirmyk, unless you move. They only accept authors living in the Detroit area. I didn't know that was the meaning of elitist:confused:

    Dubbing v Subbing

I prefer subtitles but sometimes you get surreal situations. Years ago I remember going to the cinema while I was on holidays and lots of people could not read at all or not fast enough. If it was an action film they managed, although they still laughed or screamed at the wrong time. When the...

    Dubbing v Subbing

And other did it badly on purpose to create a particular effect, i.e. Fellini. Kubrick did it in 2001 and lots of directors still use it, not for the whole film but for outside takes (to eliminate noises) or because they don't like the way actors said their lines the first time. And then there...

    Coffee

Hmm, berry of joy. They do say that the rates of suicide among tea drinkers is higher than among coffee drinkers, but that could have something to do with the hippy tea drinkers leckert mentioned.

What exactly does a PH'd mean anymore ???

Quite right. The problem is here all universities charge the same. If they deserve ridicule, there are always students whose grades are not high enough to go to other universities and will pay to go to those and if they still have vacancies, they will fill them with overseas students who pay a...

    Dubbing v Subbing

As far as I know, that was done everywhere, including Holliwood. Actors spoke their lines during filming but sound was not recorded.

    Inspiring books for teens

Sorry, Ruby, but Jacqueline Wilson is my pet hate. Give me fantasy that sells as fantasy rather than fantasy pretending to be realistic. So, it's fun to live in a children's home, if your mother is a victim of domestic violence all you need is an aunt that knows a bit of karate to put things...

    what's everyone up to today?

Well, happy belated birthday! Music solo performances are scary, specially in exam conditions, so people play a lot worse in an exam than they normally do. You did well and now you can relax for the rest of the summer

    Why Do Men Have Nipples?

I am not sure this is true. What I've heard is that people get more colds in winter, not because of temperature changes, but by keeping all their doors and windows shut, with no fresh air. Once virus and bacteria get in a house they pass from one person to another. Houses with carpets are worse...
