    Suggestions for Norse Myths

I've been curious to read more about Norse mythology and I was wondering if there were any good books on the subject? Something along the lines of Edith Hamilton's Mythology. I know she touched upon the Norse pantheon a little towards the end, but the treatment seemed neglectful compared to all...

Brent Weeks: The Night Angel Trilogy

I keep wondering to myself why I am reading this trilogy. I think I must just be a glutton for punishment. I'm just over half complete with the final book, but I have little hope of it showing improvement in the next 300 pages. The plot itself could be good if there weren't so many strands...

Michael Scott: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

I must admit that I'm addicted to reading this series. I'm nearly done with the second book, The Magician, and can't wait to start on the next book which should be coming out in May. They're a little thick, but once you get into them it doesn't take no time at all to finish reading these books...

Best dark, potentially sexual and/or violent books?

There's always the works by the Marquis de Sade if you want rape and violence.

    Lynna Banning: Crusader's Lady

I just finished this novel and can admit that I enjoyed it a great deal.I liked the hero and heroine in this story too. I wonder if there are more romances set during the times of the Crusades? It makes for an interesting setting. If anyone knows of any others, please let me know.

    F. Scott Fitzgerald?

I would like to start reading books by this author, but I do not know where to start. Is there something that I should read first? Or ones that I should make sure to read?

    The Crusades

I am looking for some books on the Crusades. Part of this reason is for research, because I'm always looking to expand general knowledge into something deeper, and the rest is purely for my own pleasure. ;) All parts of the Crusades would be welcome, but especially any that details events around...

    Diane Setterfield: The Thirteenth Tale

I have just finished reading this wonderful book this weekend and it must be spazzed about! Has anyone else had the chance to read it yet? A quick summary - Margaret Lea is a simple loner that lives above the bookshop that she helps her father run. One day she receives a letter from...

    Boy Love Manga

I was wondering if anyone liked reading this particular type of manga? For those unfamiliar with what I am talking about, BL refers to the male/male relationships in stories. I got a friend to order me a new volume and it arrived this past week. It's an adult volume called Shinobu Kokoro...

    Marquis de Sade

I've been indulging in the Marquis' writings over the past couple of months and I must admit that I like the stories. I got an edition through the campus' inter-library loan that included several short stories along with Justine. "The Prude" was rather amusing in that collection of short stories...

I was wondering if anyone here could recommend me some good books to read that deal with the Crusades and the Knights Templar.

    Colleen Shannon

I've just started reading her novels after noticing her latest release called Catspell on the shelf at the store. Sadly I didn't have enough money on me for it at that time, but I've been reading her other works until I can get my hands on it. So far it would seem that historical romances are...

    It Happened To Nancy

I finished reading this book over the weekend. It was the diary entries of a fourteen-year-old girl who was date-raped and infected with AIDS. Apart from the occasional annoyance of teenage slang, I thought it was a pretty good read. You get to understand what happens to those who do not live...

    Patrick McCabe: Breakfast On Pluto

I just finished Breakfast on Pluto by Patrick McCabe last night. I liked the story, a transvestite prostitute would interest me after all, but after the first few chapters the writing style went from amusing to annoying rather fast. I kind of had to force myself to read through it, but just...

    Emmuska Orczy: The Scarlet Pimpernel

I just finished reading this wonderful novel and must admit that I love it! I look forward to beginning the sequels once I can get my hands on them. Has anyone else read it and would like to discuss it with me? One of the scenes I liked was when Percy brought his wife home from the ball and...

Pearl S. Buck: The Good Earth

At the moment, this is my favorite book. I'm sure there are others who have read it so please discuss it with me. :) Pearl S. Buck has a simplistic writing style, but it drew me in and the story intrigued me too. It was one of those books that I didn't want to end.
