Martin: Your plaigarized reviews were not private. You are abusing your moderator status. Neither action was a careless mistake, nor a private issue between individual parties. These were willful and public. A public forum post should be countered with a public forum post - that is called...
Someone please unlock that thread, that's the most disgusting thing a forum can have happen. A thread that a moderator doesn't like, that outs him on a serous thing, so he locks it. There was nothing wrong with that thread. Just because martin is a moderator doesn't mean he deserves the last...
Anyway, is there a point to this thread... but I see little need to bang away on the same old drum.
This thread is about Novella overreacting, the other was about Martin plaigarising. Simple concept.
We do need to start a new thread now about moderators abusing their power and silencing...
Firstly, I posted directly to Martin in the first instance about his practice, to which he did not respond. I gave him plenty of time to respond either discreetly or publicly and he declined to do so. Only after several hours and another post, also within a relevant discussion, did I post the...
Wow.
I obviously have overstepped the boundaries this morning. Apparently several others on this site don't share my concerns about original work. Maybe that's just a sign of the times. Who knows.
No one here was condoning plaigarism, don't twist their concern for your misrepentation into...
So let me get this straight. This epidemic seems centered around one poster, Martin? Please look up the word epidemic.
No one here is defending plaigarism. I point it out all the time and deal with it on a daily basis.
It seems there is one blatant repeat offender, and I'm sure there...
Yeah just a bit overdone here. Plus, where's your evidence? It isn't that hard to provide evidence and links if it the situation is sooooo bad.
I agree with hastings, it isn't suprising, especially if you've been on the net for any period of time. In fact, unless you have an army of lawyers...
Good literature need not be "serious", it's about the quality of writing and the ability of the writer. What "supermarket" books does your friend read? There are bestsellers in the supermarket, if that is what they are reading then I understand that. Tom Clancy, Stephen King, et el....while...
I can read anything, and I love reading novels from a woman's point of view. I just reviewed Carrie Kabak's Cover the Butter , which I enjoyed. It's always good to read about a different perspective be it gender, race, religion, class, etc.
That said...I think what dictates someone reading...
I loved the Hobbit and enjoyed the TLOR as well. The movie hype has sort of fuzzied the whole picture lately, but oh well. Kookamoor is right that he is special because he broke new ground. Not only that, but he was a learned man, a literary scholar - not just some lucky hack. If you read up...
All depends on the courses and the professor. Some courses are all about "great books" like Shakespeare, Machiavelli, etc. Others are intro literature courses and read fairly recent contemporary fiction. I've read everything from Harry Potter to Francois Rabelais for college.
Historical fiction can be tricky to do right. The best thing to remember is think small. The smaller you keep the scope, the less likely you will make a mistake that contradicts reality. Also, heavily research.
Id always outline and research before you write, sitting down and "letting it...
You may be able to recieve a writing fellowship award or some such thing, but you would need to already be involved with some sort of writing already. I think you would have an extremely hard time finding a grant/award to write a novel without having previously produced and published works...
I think you are confused as to what makes a good "investment" for a collector. :)
Random books by obscure authors aren't it. While they may be good to add to a collection...a book collector who wants an "investment" won't really benefit from it.
