I must have been confused... I thought the winner was "Flash"?
I will look more closely.
THANKS!
You say when, and I'll buy the coffee!
Any chance you're a bass fisherman?
:D
(come on, Spring!)
SirMyk...
You should check out the Goosebumps series. Not something I would write, but not bad, either. At least it would give you something to read in the "Youth Horror" genre before you attack it!
:D
The Little Motorcycle
This book captured my imagination the instant I pulled it from the mailer. The graphics, both on the cover and on the pages inside, are bright, clean, and captivating. The turn of each page was like an anticipated event! The pictures drew my attention, but the story...
Okay, sorry for my continued absence!
Wife's class, and my 10yr old daughter, loved the book.
(SirMyk - I am VERY sorry I missed the gift. Would have loved it. Maybe I'll actually have to break down and buy PH? damnit!)
So, if Ronny, or the SFGandsomenumbers guy, can PM me their...
Okay, not much of a poetry person, but...
You mentioned the first stanza being rubbish:
I don't think it is entirely without merit. I think it sets the tone for the "wishing to change" thoughts in the next stanza. I would definitely change the "Once upon a star..." thing, though. I...
I thought it was interesting, SirMyk.
I like the style of its simplicity.
Now I have to know what was in the friggin' box?!?
And always a little twist at the end!
Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is also available as a printed book.
Also, Strunk and White's The Elements of Style will answer a lot of usage and style questions.
I agree with the previous poster - the best way I have found to learn to write is to read a lot, and write a LOT.
Don't worry too...
A person whom I had just met at my wife's company Christmas Party said "Oh, nice to meet you. So, how much do you make?"
I was a little floored at her bluntness, and her unusual choice for opening lines. I just kind of stared at her for a minute, and said "Enough to pay the bills".
What is...
Got the book today.
Thanks, CM!
(I dig seeing everyone's signatures. Kind of a pulling back of the curtain)
My daughter and I are going to read it, and my wife is going to read it to her class of 4 year olds.
The artwork is awesome, and the book is very professionally done. My wife was...
I would cut off my hand for $100 milliom.
Not a spur of the moment thing, either. I have actually had conversations with my best buddy about this. He would not cut off anything for any amount of money.
$100 Million could buy a real nice prosthetic.
Would you kill someone for $100...
I see a girl in the night
with a baby in her hand
under an old street light
near a garbage can
she puts the kid away
and goes to get a hit
she hates her life
and what she's done to it
another child that'll never go to school
never get to fall in love
never get to be cool...
I guess something like "World Peace" or "the love of my estranged son" would be appropriate here, but I would rather be honest. I would like to be able to write for a living and be financially independent enough to make decisions based on what was right, and not what was financially prudent...
I suggest, if you want the quintessential Stephen King, you might try Carrie, Firestarter, or The Stand. If you want something different, but well written, you might try Eyes of the Dragon or The Gunslinger. The Green Mile was pretty good, too.
Contrary to the opinion of some others here, I...
Asimov was/is also fairly prolific, and still usually pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of his (my brother is, though), but I have liked what I have read.
I think the prolific writers (like King and Koontz) become victims of their own success. Once they have a track record, their publishers...
I recently read somewhere that Christmas was long banned by many religions as "pagan" and "anti-christian". Only since about the 1920's has it been a National Holiday, and then only because retailers wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to peddle their wares.
I think Christmas is as...
I didn't leave. I just took a sabatical!
:D
(hi, novella!)
I think "inane" bickering is inevitable when so many people from such diverse backgrounds and cultures get together. It's part of what makes the "human buffet" so interesting!
