There's a neat little plugin at vbulletin.org which prevents users with < 15 posts from posting urls. Of course, it can be customized in the XML file to set it to whatever limit you want.
Thanks a lot. I was wondering about its significance. Apparently Jerome intended the novel to be a serious and weighty book, but it got filled with lots of amusing anecdotes.
This passage just seemed a bit out of place in the light-hearted tone of the book and I was wondering about it.
I posted this question on my own forum, but also figured I could do with some help from BAR.
There's a certain passage in the classic novel, "Three men in a boat" which has always intrigued me.
It's the part where Jerome describes the glorious night and then tells a story about a band of...
Peder, thanks. I always believe that you can never enforce guidelines. Community etiquette is a learned skill. When I join a particular forum, over time, I will start fitting into that community and how that community behaves. That's called "groupthink" (yes, I'm an MBA student ;)) You see, it's...
I think that one of the biggest problems with an automated PM system is that if it becomes obvious that it's a "stock" message, people will stop reading it. On many forums I've seen auto-PM used but the way people see it, if it's "automated" anything, they tend to avoid reading it. People will...
You know what? There was a forum I visited which deleted my post. First time, I accepted it. Second time, I voted with my feet and left. Not a whimper of protest, nothing, no communication. Just left it... as simple as that.
Point is, people aren't going to stay behind if you adopt an...
Forgive me, I couldn't resist sharing my thoughts.
I don't presume to be very knowledgeable, but I've been a member on many forums and a moderator on one. I also admin at my own forum. Very few forums I know of delete posts without warning unless it's totally spam. I myself generally don't...
He's done some pretty terrifying feats in the past. He's also a very good trick magician. He should stick to that instead of trying to do all kinds of unusual records.
I didn't target any particular forum. As I said, I generally think that since books and literature cover such a wide area it's difficult to get common ground. Having said that I agree that you are likely to get the odd good discussion on some relatively unknown but good authors.
I generally...
Well this was more of a general discussion rather than specifically targetted at TBF. However, I have to mention that I love writing reviews, but since I have my own site for that, I rarely post reviews here. ;)
On the other hand, I find that many of my favourites tend to be old-time (for the...
I think there are too many of us with too many varying levels and degrees of literary tastes that getting a proper book discussion going is very tough. Don't you think so too? I mean, there are many book-related topics here, but most of them are confined to very popular authors or books. We...
Another fantastic, thrilling legal fiction, I think this is one of the best Henry Cecil novels written yet. It builds up the atmosphere beautifully and the twist at the end literally got me jumping up and down with excitement. Probably one of the most ingenious novels I've read, and I've read a...
Let me tell you something. I'm the admin of my own book forum and I know for a fact that book related subjects (unless very general in nature) rarely get people to start a discussion.
This is not because people don't appreciate the review, but just that there are too many tastes out there and...
Here's something I cooked up. Hope you enjoy this. All in a light-hearted spirit. :D
Guide to online forum posting
When they say:I don’t mean to offend anybody, but…
They mean: Offence is certainly intended, you idiots, if you’re smart enough to understand what I write.
This is going...
