I read The Hobbit and Fellowship recently for the first time. I *hated* The Hobbit. I had to force myself to finish it. I didn't love Fellowship, but I didn't hate it either. It kept be interested, and mostly entertained. I plan on reading the other 2 at some point, but really if they...
Pullman just released another little book as a companion called Once Upon a Time in the North. You get to read about how Scorseby and Iorek met. I really enjoyed it.
The movie comes out on DVD next Tuesday. Despite its flaws I loved the movie. I can't wait to see it again.
I have a quick question about the Dresden Files series. What world do they take place in? Do they take place in our world, and just happen to have supernatural characters and events going on (kind of like Harry Potter, and how the Thursday Next series is sort of our world, but not), or do they...
The regular Atonement shouldn't be that hard to find. They're still printing non-movie covers.
You have to admit they work though. How many of you are looking for the books because the promotion for the movie made you think it was a good story? Must be a lot since so many of you are...
mdgradon159, I'm reading them now. I finished the first one and LOVED it. Borders has all three in one volume for like 20 bucks and I think it's 20% off through the holidays.
I think it's a total cop-out for her to do this after the books were finished. If she wanted to out Dumbledore and make it a cry for tolerance she should have included it in the book. It could have easily been part of Rita Skeeter's book.
I think Rowling was afraid of how people would...
from the article linked...
"Wohlberg's new book "Exposing Harry Potter and Witchcraft: The Menace Beneath the Magic," asserts that "Harry Potter" purchases are often accompanied at the sales counter with materials on Wicca. "
I wonder where they got that info. I've been working in a bookstore...
Rowling has said that if she could go back and change anything she would have edited book 5 better, because she felt it was too long.
I had the same problem with 4 and 5. They're my least favorite in the series because I think they both suffer from not enough editing.
I love The Joy Luck Club, but I think The Kitchen God's Wife is my favorite of all her books. I've never been able to make it through A Hundred Secret Senses, and I didn't care for the 2nd half of her latest.
Actually, most people behind the counter are worried about some jerk customer ruining the ending for us before we get a chance to read it. While most of you were out getting books at midnight parties, and Saturday morning a lot of us weren't able to read the book because we had to work all...
I'm working my way through these now. I started with the latest No Humans Involved because I got an advanced copy. I loved it, and went back to start the series. I didn't like Bitten as much.
I'm not too crazy about Elena as a character by herself. Add in all the other supernaturals and a...
