I think that Americans in general are unaware of non-American authors, unless their books are somehow tied to movies or TV specials or whatever Oprah has picked, and even then they are largely popular novels. Even books that take place in somewhere else in the world are usually made into movies...

So many books, so little time. I would like to read Les Miserables (unabridged) and The Count of Monte Cristo (unabridged), but there are so many that I want to read that I probably couldn't list them all here. And my list would change from time to time.
16; I was really busy with work at one point and I haven't had the motivation to do much reading this year, so far. Hopefully things will pick up soon :)
Alice Munro is an excellent writer. She specializes in short stories and one of them has been made into a film (Away From Her). The story I read was "The love of a good woman"; excellent story.

A couple come to mind, even though I haven't read them, but due to the site I have become aware of them. The books that I became aware of where Revolutionary Road (I think it was book of the month selection) and A Confederacy of Dunces.

Because sometimes a library may not have the book that you want to read. I have been trying to see if my local library system has "Revolutionary Road" by Robert Yates and they don't. So this means that I have to either purchase a copy myself or find another library system that does have have a...
