The Most overrated fiction book ever?

Thank you! Anytime you say this to a group of people suddenly you find yourself in the middle of a lynch mob. I have tried reading two of her novels. Interview with the Vampire and Lestat and both of them were the worst books ever. I read the first page of another of her books in the store a...

    Books that made you...

    1) One Book that made you read it More Than Once: A lot! Looking for Mr. Goodbar by Judith Rossner 2) One book you would want on a desert island: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (I would actually have a list) 3) One book that made you laugh: The Dilbert Principle by Scott Adams...

Most hated 'classic' novel you've actually read

I think the book I had to read in school that I hated a lot was The Portrait of Dorian Gray. It seemed interesting and I even managed to be slightly into it for the first fifty pages or so and then after that I just couldn't stand it anymore. I can't remember why now. It's been too many years...

Do you read in the toilet, and what reading material usually goes in there?

I read all the time in the bathtub and then usually go off and leave the book on the side of the tub, so people probably think that I read on the toilet all the time, but I rarely do. Except when I'm bathing I don't usually stay in there long enough.

Victoria Beckham: That Extra Half An Inch

Posh Spice is my favorite space alien. I just wish the mothership would come back and get her already. She is the weirdest looking person or weirdest looking human shaped object, I mean. Ha. I have to give her credit though. She managed to take a dead end musical venture (Spice Girls) that...

    Historical Fiction Recommendations

Thanks. I will check that one out. I read The Dress Lodger last week. It wasn't bad. Wasn't amazing, but wasn't bad. Already most of the details have faded from my memory and I have no interest in ever reading it again, but it was all right if you have nothing else to do. I didn't like the...

Oh! Thanks for the list. I love it. I have been checking some things out from the library.

    Historical Fiction Recommendations

You won't be disappointed. A good library should have it. It's Emma Donoghue's most famous book, I think. You'll love it. I think that she portrays things very realistically. She doesn't sugar-coat anything. She makes the prostitutes seem very real. A lot of times in books (even in The Dress...

    Your reading routine

My favorite place to read is the bathtub. As long as you don't drop the books in it's the best place. You can go in there and close the door and be completely alone for an hour or so and with the water running you can't really hear anything else that might be going on in the house. I find it...

    Historical Fiction Recommendations

Ronny, you should try reading Slammerkin if you liked The Crimson Petal. They are very similar, but I think that Slammerkin's style is much more refined. It's very good. Thank you everyone for the suggestions. :) I got some great ideas. I went to the library yesterday and picked up The Dress...

Yes. Totally worth a look. Thank you. :) I have seen her books in stores, but never read them.

    Historical Fiction Recommendations

Sorry. :) I typed that first post really fast. I should have explained more about them. Both book are about maids in the 18th-19th century. Slammerkin is really about a prostitute turned seamtress, I suppose. Anyway, I guess if I hadn't been so rushed and sleepy last night I would have said...

    Historical Fiction Recommendations

I didn't want to make the title of this thread too long, though I wish I could have made it a little more descriptive... Anyway, I recently read Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue and Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood and I was wondering if anyone can recommend some books similar to those. I tried...
