'The curious incident of the dog in the night-time' by Mark Haddon. Very easy and short read. You could also try the 'Search inside' feature at www.amazon.com to read some excerpts. Have a look here for an excerpt of Mark Haddon's book.

    Attending the theatre-do you?

There's not much going on here where I live, but the last productions I saw were 'Hamlet' and 'King Lear' and the Musical 'Tanz der Vampire' (Dance of the Vampires).

    Rammstein

I would translate "Reise Reise" to Travel, Travel or something along the lines.. I think it's interesting that Rammstein are actually more popular abroad than here in Germany. I heard someone say, that they are probably too German for Germany. Awesome live show, though. I saw them live...

    Victor Hugo

Exactly. I wanted to order an edition at amazon.de and had troubles to find a complete version, because most are heavily abridged.:( Actually, I listened to the audio book of "Les Misérables" some months ago and it just wasn't the same as "The hunchback of Notre-Dame" to me, because it was...

    Victor Hugo

Was your edition abridged or not? I'm just wondering because the German version is 1600 pages long.. I loved "The hunchback of Notre-Dame", although it could be a bit difficult at times, but that might just be me. At that time I was just starting reading "difficult" books..

    Let's talk retirement

There are no fees for universities yet, and my student loan has great conditions. Half of the money is free, the other half is to be repaid 5 years after I finished university with no interest. Besides, I'll only have to pay to a maximum of 10 000€. :) It's a loan for students, whose parents...

    Let's talk retirement

Oh yes, i'm saving a lot of money, too, but will have to spend it next year in order to get a student loan. They won't give it to me if I have saved too much money. :( So I won't be able to start saving for retirement until I finished studying...

    Currently Reading

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson: I didn't like it at first when I stumbled over the word "Deliverator", which in its German translation (Auslieferator) sounds so incredibly stupid... but it's growing on me. I'm half way through now and want to know how the story proceeds.

    New Mods??? Any word????

I was asking myself that question, too. Moderators are, unlike the Senior moderators, restricted to a few forums, aren't they? I would be good to know, where mehastings is in charge. Anyway: Congratulations, mehastings! :)

Starting a New Thread? Would you? Will you?

Couldn't Motokid start a new thread on that topic with a new poll and the two threads be merged afterwards?

    Dava Sobel: Galileo's Daughter

I'm currently reading this book and wondered if anyone has some thoughts on it? Amazon.com: I'm only 60 pages in, so I haven't made my mind up about this yet. I can only give a few first impressions: I like, how the author quotes letters and publications in the book, it certainly adds...

Ok folks, who are our smokers and who are our non smokers?

I never was a smoker, I just hate the smell of cigarettes. Right now I'm afraid that my 13 year old sister might start smoking. Most of her friends do and she is so easy to be influenced! I'm really concerned about all the children that age, who are already addicted to nicotine. It seems to be...

    Least read book

I heard from a lot of people that they didn't finish 'Everything is Illuminated' by Jonathan Safran Foer. Most of them were German, though, so it might be just the translation.
