    Everybody's an author now.

Yes, I support the concept of small, highly reputable small presses to be the front of our upcoming revolution in Literature.

    Everybody's an author now.

I apologize to anybody and everybody that took my reply the same way as you. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." I've got nothing against people who involve themselves in activities just for fun or enjoyment -- playing video grames, etc. All such activities have a positive...

    Everybody's an author now.

However, true literature is more than whether a reader enjoys a work. Mere enjoyment of a novel is simply masturbation. It doesn't produce any kids. The problem that I see with self-pubs is not related to typos or poor grammer. The issue is how much Literature will continue to contribute to...

Super cool movie, and that's about it.

Yeah, an unqualified candidate got... a new job as the Human Resources Manager for a major company because her friend was sleeping with the CEO. This HR Manager was a recent college grad who majored in criminal justice and had less that six months of actual work experience in a job that paid a...

    Everybody's an author now.

Laura, Sorry for the tone. There was no hostility intent within my prior comment. I agree with you, and maybe that contributes to my frustration. If I made recommendations on stock purchases, writing seminars, the self-publishing industry, and the associated paid advertising companies that...

    Everybody's an author now.

Good marketing skills would promote my work. Whether my work qualifies a "literature" is not self-evaluation, but the impact on society.

I agree 100%. Times have changed. But, your friend must not have written about Batman, vampires, werewolfs, or some traditional theme that the Houses prefer. In any case, good marketing skills does not promote the advancement of Literature, netither does good sales of a novel or positive...

Brick & mortar bookstores- R.I.P. & good riddance

Did you two start drinking beer before I got there? I'd probably have to be dancing on the table top before I'd trust anything said by a giant.

Brick & mortar bookstores- R.I.P. & good riddance

Me too. Now let's get together with beer good because he's buying. BTW, I wouldn't switch from my small publisher to a giant even if it was buying the beer.

Brick & mortar bookstores- R.I.P. & good riddance

Our community is raising funds for a new Library. By the time the project reaches its goal, libraries may be obsolete also. On the advice of Piers Anthony, I made sure that this reprint of Rarity from the Hollow would be on paper too. That advice may soon be obsolete too. Do you remember...

Brick & mortar bookstores- R.I.P. & good riddance

Personally, I think that the combined practices of the traditional Houses / industry and the newer self-publishing industries will kill Literature as a contributor of cultural advancement in not only this country, but across the globe. Literature, especially fiction, is not just a matter of...

What's the difference between spam and self promotion?

Speaking of Bath Salts Did you see McAfee on the news. He said that he had been accused of using bath salts and asked, "why, I (used to) live in a state filled with cocaine...." (or something like that). I don't intend to violate this site's rules or to use bath salts. Just "friendly" but...

What's the difference between spam and self promotion?

Thanks. However, cyberspace is not a piece of real estate like a bookstore (or a farm or a horse). A site owner pays to register a name, only. Registration grants no authority to restrict free speech if the site is interactive. Using your analogy, I have every right to walk into my...

What's the difference between spam and self promotion?

Free Speech in Cyberspace I'm glad that you didn't consider my post to be spam. It is unknown how many people who saw the post will decide to check out Rarity from the Hollow, who was interested, or feel glad to have found out about the novel, and feel more worthwhile because they are...

    Everybody's an author now.

Craftsmanship A friend lost his job as a typesetter for the State of West Virginia a few years ago. He mixed ink to make the correct colors and everything. At the time, although I'm a psychotherapist by trade, I ran our Division of Culture and History. I'm the least cultured person I know...

    Everybody's an author now.

I don't know anything about the process; and, I don't know anything about promotion, as you may have noticed. There is a typesetter listed on the inside of the front cover along with publisher, copyright numbers, etc. But, maybe, especially since it was published in England, typesetting may be...

    Everybody's an author now.

Rarity from the Hollow was edited twice by different professionals. However, I still found a typo in the first chapter. I think that it must have been an error made by the typesetter.
