Are you picky about the condition of your books?

When I'm reading a book I don't bend the spine, or dog ear the pages but I usually don't care what happens to a book after I've read it. If someone wants to borrow a book I've read, I usually give it to them to keep. I don't see any use in keeping books that I've read, it's the unread that I want!!!

    José Saramago: Blindness

I've read both Blindness and Seeing. I wouldn't recommend reading Seeing first. Ir is a totally different story, but it would tell you what happened in Blindness which could kinda ruin it for you. I've also read the Double, Great book. I can't seem to get enough of Saramago nowadays!!

    Looking For Headache Inducers

If I could add 1 to your list, Blindness - Jose Saramago is quite good.

    Books about Rwanda

Shake hands with the devil: The failure of Humanity in Rwanda was written by Romeo Dallaire. It's a Non-Fiction book written by the head of the UN PeaceKeeping mission in Rwanda during the time the genocide. It's very desctriptive and somewhat dry but a good account of what happened during that...

    José Saramago: Blindness

This was one of the most stimulating books I've ever read. I felt I was with them until the end. I felt so much for the doctor's wife going through what she went through. She is the greatest character in this book for me.

    Censoring Books

I'm very confused as well. I guess this thread is more about whether or not we should allow SOCIETY to refuse minors access to explicit material deemed unsuitable, and specifically in this case, books. It's true that in every other form of entertainment we have ratings that allow us to provide a...

    Online Book Buying

Wow!! Where do you live? I buy most of my books online or at used books store. Most of the new books from the stores are much more expensive than online.

List your favorite Stephen King novels

My favorite King Novel was The Stand. Short list to mention: The Green Mile DT Series Desperation Insomnia Hearts in Atlantis

List your least favorite King novels

This was the same for me as well. Most of the books that I read by him had some tie into the Dark Towers and they would keep my attention because of it. The worst King book for me would probably be The Eyes of the Dragon.

    Got some advice?

The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King is not your typical Fantasy series. There is not much magic, at least not the one known to most Fantasy series. But it's a great series nonetheless that I think you would like. What it lacks in Dragons and Wizards it makes up with one kick ass character in...

Do you make yourself finish a bad book?

I usually don't read as much when I read a book I dislike. So that takes time away from books that I could be reading. Also, I work overnights and do most of my reading then. If the book doesn't hold my interest, I usually tend to fall asleep...so bad books just don't work.

    I just finished reading...

I've just finished the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams. I was surprised by this book. I'd heard about the book but never really knew what the story was about. It was totally different than what I had perceived it would be. I thought the book was very easy to read. The only...

10 most dangerous books of the 19th and 20th century

Well, my comments were directed more towards the comments made about the book than the book itself. I haven't read the book so I cannot comment about it. I found it ironic that he would have said to then go on and defend capitalism. In my opinion, and again, I haven't read the book so I...

10 most dangerous books of the 19th and 20th century

The quote below is from the description of the number 6 most harmful book, Das Kapital from Karl Marx. I will not explain why I think this is the funniest of all the descriptions because that would be arguing politics.

    I just finished reading...

I've just finished reading Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov. I thought it was good. Asimov has a very dry style of writing which makes it difficult to not fall asleep. (I say this only because I work overnight and that's when I do most of my reading.) But I like the story. I like the fact...

Who is your fav fantasy character of all time?

My favorite Fantasy character (and this is staying in the Fantasy genre) would probably be Shadow from American Gods - Neil Gaiman. I haven't read much in fantasy and I'm sure there are better ones. But for now, that is mine.

    Orson Scott Card: Ender's Game

This was probably the best Sci-Fi book I've read. I've been meaning to get into the Alvin Maker series but have not heard much about it. Has anyone read that series? And if so, do you recommend it?
