What is/are your most valuable book(s)?

The Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson printed in 1889. Bound in red leather and with gold leaf on the cover and the page edges. I doubt it's worth much in the way of hard currency, but it's definitely worth more than all those paperbacks on my shelves. And it's the book I value the highest.

    Happy Birthday Jemima Aslana !!!

Thanks everyone. So far I've gotten top of the class marks in two subjects. I'm still waiting to finish another as well as handing in my BA - that happens tomorrow btw. The reason I've all but disappeared is said BA, as well as the fact that I'm working as stage manager on a stage show and we...

The word "****" on a t-shirt - freedom of speech?

I doubt the f-word on t-shirts is what teaches kids to say it. That habit comes from hearing adults they look up to using it - or older siblings, not a t-shirt. Kids are imitators, they imitate the behaviour of people they admire, so if they like a person with the f-word on their tee, they'd...

Can someone help me on this?

Try Fanstory.com they have very extensive reviews. That's a pretty good site for getting feedback on your work.

    What books have you hated?

The Woman Who Gave Birth To Rabbits by Emma Donoghue. It's a collection of short stories and it's absolute crap. I got it second hand in mint condition and thought I'd found a bargain - no, I hadn't, there was a reason it hadn't been read before. I was most astounded crap like that can get...

    Any one read this?

I have it lying around somewhere - books I found second-hand and bought without really knowing what they were. I plan on reading them at some point, starting with Curse of the Mistwraith, I think that's the appropriate place to start.

Are you a nerd, a geek or a dork?

Outcast Genius 95 % Nerd, 60% Geek, 65% Dork For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common...

    Where is Kookamoor?

I hear i-net connections are decidedly bad in the outback :P So if people know that she's back in Aussieland I wouldn't worry too much so soon after she's moved. I-net connections are seldom the first things to be sorted after a move, here in Denmark it can sometimes take up to 6 weeks for an...

I've just finished it. I got rather caught up in it :P It took away from my History reading but hey, it was worth it lol

    Paolini

So first it was him who was in a hurry to publish, and then a bigger publisher took it on without suggesting some editing. Pity. I've read only parts of the first book - but that was enough to tell me I don't want to read the rest. There may be good ideas in it, fair enough, but nothing ruins a...

    Paolini

Or perhaps Eragon should have been posted on FictionPress or elsewhere so he could've gotten some criticism and gotten better before he go published. The amount of complaints about the writing being immature is just a sign he shouldn't have been published yet. Of course he cannot be expected to...

Book Discussion- Gardens of the Moon

As I wrote to direstraits: Thinking about it right now, my judgement 'awesome', is over the top :P I have a good excuse though. I haven't read fantasy at all since sometime in October, and I picked up Gardens on a recommendation I recieved because I moaned about lack of quality in fantasy...

    Gift-Giving Hall of Shame

Ah, I can't compete with some of those horrors. My grandmother gave me a pair of 'shoes', not for walking but for keeping my feet warm when sitting in the couch, reading. That's all well and good except that I have a pair of indoors shoes already (and she knows this) and the ones she gave me...

Pease explain why this is art.

It can be, yes, but that does not mean it's an acceptable action. I will not condone an action that destroys someone else's property just because it's art. It may be art - fine - I won't challenge that, but that doesn't mean it's immediately a-ok.

Pease explain why this is art.

He could have called it art, and it could actually have been art, but it still would not be acceptable, because this art would still entail harm to someone else's property. There's something called The Art of War, Martial Arts etc. These are 'arts' too one might say, but they too include the...

Pease explain why this is art.

Did you see me mention the half-rotting pig cadavres? I really don't think you can come up with anything I'd find anymore gross than that. Equally gross, yeah, someone will be able to do so, but more? I doubt it. I'll accept it as art, mainly because I think the concept of 'art' is one of the...
